One of the greatest days this year, for me, was standing next to each of these people at our 10th anniversary of @futurefilmshow. We’re sitting on some exciting partnerships to launch next year.

I love our team at FOFS. I consider them each, at this point, family. Family I’m happy to have chosen. Some have been here for a while, others are new. All of them I admire. Together, we’re championing emerging Canadian filmmakers, while holding ourselves together against the critics. And believe me, the critics enjoy sharing their opinions.

This organisation was built upon love, friendship, kindness, and the ability to strip away any ego or hidden agendas. Communication and respect are paramount to anyone’s success. Read that again.

It’s each of these people that have kept this festival, and me, afloat. This team has always looked out for each-other, and will continue to do so.

In a polarised world, amongst all of the rising hate and injustice, it seems that there are people operating on the belief that separation, egregious discrimination and violence are an excuse for the way we’re all feeling. It’s disgusting. The sheer scope of death and destruction is unimaginable. The more separated we become from malignant and viral ideas, the farther we move away from love.

I hope you’re reflecting, and defining healthy boundaries. I hope you can find happiness and love. Spend time with other people. Hold yours close.
