SPOTTED: Just when you thought it was safe to put away the pom-poms, Zombie Cheerleaders From Hell has risen again at Can Can—and apparently death looks fabulous in leg warmers. This cult favorite throws ’80s horror, acid-washed nostalgia, dark humor, killer choreography and plenty of glitter into one delightfully possessed pep rally. Johnny Boy (Jonathan Betchel) hosts the madness as Eugene, the school nerd and seemingly the only student who hasn’t become a zombie. Talk about feeling left out at lunch.

The small but mighty cast is having a bloody good time. Nicholas Bernard shows off some killer vocals while channeling everyone from Michael Jackson to Danny Zuko, with Rey Rodriguez bringing the moves alongside him. Susan Ballenksi, Savannah Lynn and the always fabulous Shadoe Mintrone round out this undead squad with enough sex appeal and attitude to make you wonder why zombies ever bothered eating brains. Bernard will soon transfer to Can Can’s annual This Is Halloween at The Triple Door, running October 15–31, while the super-sexy Jordan Iosua Taylor returns to town to join Zombie Cheerleaders for its final two weeks. Now that’s what I call a supernatural substitution!

Zombie Cheerleaders From Hell plays through November 1, pairing its campy horror spectacle with Can Can’s seasonal fare and spooky cocktails. It’s sexy, silly, nostalgic and just twisted enough to make Halloween in Seattle a little more fun. Grab your pom-poms, order a cocktail and prepare to become obsessed—and maybe possessed. These cheerleaders definitely have spirit. The only problem is, they may want yours. -MKS
