Someone broke the front door of Heretic Coffee this morning! 🥺🫠 There's lots of info & conversation on their official post that is important context. I wanna focus on something special. When Loki & I walked up this morning it was definitely upsetting to see the broken door but there were several people helping clean up. There was a comraderie that was encouraging. We joked around while we helped clean. With very little direction, a group of people who only sort of know each other moved furniture together. The volunteer staff swept, vacuumed, mopped, and somehow made sure the beans still flowed behind the counter. Furniture was put back, pics were taken, plans of action were brainstormed, lattes & burritos were made, and the day resumed. For what it was, it was almost *fun.* Sad yeah, but everyone was talking to each other instead of near each other. It's so rare these days to find a community that feels safe even when bad things happen. When trouble arises it feels much easier to weather it together. So shout out to @hereticcoffeepdx for creating such a welcoming, kind community that supports one another so fully by showing up in the moment. Thank you for really holding space & being an anchor in our community. And hey, silver lining: now we can get a better front door. 😅💕
