A pulse. A heartbeat. A celebration. ✨ Here Comes the Band doesn’t just tell a story — it moves. It lifts a stadium, honours legacy, and wraps HBCU pride into every vibrant page. 🎺 It even brought me back to my short‑lived Grade 9 trumpet days — big memories, bigger feelings — reminding me how music makes us feel seen. A stunning tribute to marching band culture, crafted with heart from cover to creator notes. Stand tall, feel the rhythm… here comes the band. 🎶💛 Check out our full review: https://mommabraga.com/2026/10/20/here-comes-the-band-a-heartbeat-a-living-breathing-celebration-of-hbcu-marching-band/ #MommaBragaReview #HereComesTheBand #HBCULegacy #BookReview https://mommabraga.com/2026/10/20/here-comes-the-band-a-heartbeat-a-living-breathing-celebration-of-hbcu-marching-band/

HYPE HER UP! 🙌🏾 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 Shadra Strickland is visiting the Village on Saturday, October 24th! @shadrieka was raised in the ATL. She graduated from Syracuse University and later completed her M.F.A. at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Shadra won the Ezra Jack Keats Award and the Coretta Scott King/John Steptoe Award for New Talent in 2009 for her illustrations in her first picture book, Bird, written by Zetta Elliott. Strickland co-illustrated Our Children Can Soar, winner of a 2010 NAACP Image Award. She has published with Lee and Low Books, Simon and Schuster, Random House, Candlewick, Chronicle Books, and Little Brown. ABOUT THE BOOK: Everyone has their favorite part of a football game, but at a historically Black college or university (HBCU), halftime is arguably the most anticipated part of the event. All eyes are glued to the field as the HBCU band, in their resplendent sequins and tassels, carrying shining brass instruments, perform in this glorious celebration of tradition and pageantry, while the majorettes dazzle in precision lines of high-stepping choreography, twirling batons with radiant flair. Gorgeously rendered in rich colors that complement the lyrical prose written by award-winning author and illustrator Shadra Strickland and lively art by John Holyfield, HERE COMES THE BAND is an ode to the enduring allure of the HBCU experience. HBCU Alums, let’s celebrate the culture, and the pomp & circumstance of the HBCU BANDS! 🎶 🎺 🥁 🎷 Click the 🔗 in our bio to purchase your “VILLAGE VIP” TICKET to the podcast show & book signing. 📍 @lovevillagebooks 🔊 Podcast Show + VIP Village: 9:15 - 10:15 AM 🔔 General Admission + Book Signing: 11 AM - NOON In partnership with @lovevillagebooks @thehbuc Powered by @binnsmediagroup 💨 by @djace333 🎥 @donthatetrav #podcast #passthebooktofefewithjennifer🎙️ #bookswelove #authorswelove 🤎🖤 #theVillage 👊🏾

Let books be. Let books represent the beautiful, diverse world we live in and the many (oftentimes difficult) moments of life that readers of all ages experience. Let books serve as windows and mirrors, and let them do their job of saying “Hey, you’re not alone.” Let books convey emotions of joy, love, tenderness, revelry, sadness, grief, fear, uncertainty, and everything in between. That’s what books are meant to do, and whether or not we choose to read them should be something we always get to decide for ourselves and should not be dictated by others. Explore these titles and more on our website: www.leeandlow.com. #LetBooksBe Orange background. Text reads, “Let Books Be. Support the freedom to read by adding these books to your collection.” An arrow points right, indicating that the user should swipe. Lee & Low Books logo.
