Camping on the beaches of Ko Yao Yai was just what I needed after a few very social days in the very touristy Thai destinations of Krabi and Ao Nang. On one of the nights I was woken up in the middle of the night by the sound of a motorbike arriving. Very unusual because I was the only person on the entire beach. The person had a powerful flashlight and was shining it onto the rocks and into the water, even going into the water and climbing on the rocks himself. After a few minutes, I realized he was just fishing. Not quite what I expected at around midnight but after that realization I was quickly able to relax and drift back off to sleep. #thailand #bikepacking #bicycletouring #bicycletravel

Nothing beats outside.
No couches.

After a few very fun, very social but very draining nights at the touristy Thai towns of Krabi and Ao Nang, it was time to decompress. I saw these nearby quite large islands of Ko Yao Yai and Ko Yao Noi and figured one of them would be a great spot to find a remote beach and setup my hammock for a few days of solitude. #bikepacking #thailand #aonang #thailandbackpacker

After crossing the border into Thailand and making my way up the east coast, it was time cross over to the west coast and the tourist hotspots of Krabi and Ao Nang. I created a route using Google satellite view and I honestly wasn't sure it would even work. Instead of taking the "normal" road, my route would have me cut off the paved road onto a dirt palm plantation then make my way up some sort of path that I could only barely see via satellite imagery. There was one google map review for a "hiking trail" with an image attached of a bicycle leaning against a large clay water pot. I translated the review from Thai and it said it's more of a hiking trail and not great for bicycles. But the image of the bicycle on the trail was reassuring so I thought I'd give it a shot. As it turns out, if there is a will, there is a way, and a bit of hike a bike later and I was cruising down the other side of the mountain/hill and on my way to Thailand's west coast. #bikepacking #bicycletouring #thailand #thailandbackpacker #vegancyclist

Lovely island gettaway on Salt Spring Island! Got a few days of nice sunshine and enjoyed checking out the local coffee shops and restaurants. Highlight as always was @ox_eats_grass but we also got a solid vegan pizza from @truelovepizza.ssi (no vegan cheese unfortunately) and the falafel from @pvspatate was solid as usual. #saltspringisland #saltspring #bcferries #biketrip #britishcolumbia

Happy birthday to my partner on this crazy life journey! It has been quite the ride, leaving our comfort zones many times, but always making it out better on the other side. I am really proud of your resilience. Also, super glad you love dogs 😂
