ACTORS FROM THE LONDON STAGE
make a triumphant return to Wellesley College!

Diana Chapman Walsh Alumnae Hall Auditorium

Wellesley College Theatre invites the general public and campus community to FREE performances of Shakespeare's beloved Much Ado About Nothing!

The Actors From The London Stage (AFTLS) present Much Ado About Nothing in a unique actor-driven production, with just 5 actors and minimal tech, featuring Pamela Flanagan, Grace Lilley, Chenise Lynette, Hayden Mampasi, and Alex Phelps.

Much Ado About Nothing is one of Shakespeare's most imaginative and exuberant comedies, contrasting two pairs of lovers in a witty and suspenseful battle of the sexes. Attracted to each other, the maddeningly skeptical Beatrice and Benedick are dead-locked in a lively war of words until their friends hatch a plot to unite them. The mutually devoted Hero and Claudio, on the other hand, all too quickly fall victim to a malicious plot to part them. Near-fatal complications ensue, but with the help of the hilarious Constable Dogberry and his confederates, the lovers are ultimately united.

About AFTLS:
Actors From The London Stage was founded in 1975 at the University of California, Santa Barbara, by Professor Homer “Murph” Swander and the renowned stage & screen actor Sir Patrick Stewart. One of the oldest established touring Shakespeare companies in the world, the AFTLS company ethos and mission is simplicity at its finest. Five actors take the stage, with minimal props and costumes, and direct themselves in a performance of a complete Shakespeare play, with each actor portraying multiple roles. Coming from such prestigious companies as the Royal Shakespeare Company, the National Theatre of Great Britain and Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, these classically trained actors are equally dedicated to presenting first-rate professional performances, and to working with students to bring Shakespeare’s work alive.

Alongside free public performances, the company of five actors will lead classes and workshops throughout the residency week.

From @wellesley.news on inaugural festival:
"[Cohort 1 Grantee Annie Jin] Wang emphasized how unique and necessary the WRT Festival is to the American theater landscape: ‘All three projects in our inaugural cohort reaffirm that theater can — and should — take many forms, and that live performance can still be a potent medium through which to bring us closer to each other and communicate important personal, social, and political ideas through art.’"

Let's grow this initiative together!

The Bacchae meet the Real Housewives of NJ meet climate change activism in this Obie-winning comedy! "It's going to feel amazing to save the world."

“An astonishing new play by Madeleine George that whirls ancient myth, lesbian pulp, ecological thriller and The Real Housewives of Monmouth County into a perfect storm of timely tragicomedy.” – The New York Times

Meet Diane, a permaculture gardener dripping with butch charm. She’s got supernatural abilities owing to her true identity—the Greek god Dionysus—and she's returned to the modern world to gather mortal followers and restore the Earth to its natural state. Where better to begin than with four housewives in a suburban New Jersey cul-de-sac? In this comedy with a twist, Pulitzer Prize finalist Madeleine George - currently producer /writer/story editor on Only Murders in the Building - pens a hilarious evisceration of the blind eye we all turn to climate change and the bacchanalian catharsis that awaits us, even in our own backyards.

“Smart and boisterously funny... On multiple levels, this is the play we need right now.” – The Boston Globe
