Gm❤️s, Owning a tuxedo/ formal wear, dinner jacket, cocktail dress etc is a must living in WDC! With so many cocktail/dinner parties & galas throughout the year, it’s best to stay ready. On any given day or evening you don’t know where you will be. Yes #cbc is every September here in our nations capital, as we all know the dinner is formal attire. Because I was feeling quite lovely all day I didn’t want to wear an all black tux to the dinner this year. So I decided to wear for the 1st time this amazing #ralphlaurenpurplelabel white silk robe I purchased a couple years ago with my tuxedo pants. Literally Praying the entire night I bring it back home safely without a spot or blemish. Thank God she came home safe & sound! Before the Nation of Islam became a national movement, there was a journey.

During the Birth Anniversary Week of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, the Eternal Leader of the Nation of Islam, we celebrate his life by tracing the early footsteps of the man who would become one of the most consequential Black leaders of the 20th century.

Born Elijah Poole in Sandersville, Georgia, in 1897, his early life unfolded under the brutal realities of Jim Crow America. He would later recount witnessing two lynchings, including the lynching of a young man he knew.

What does witnessing racial terror do to a young mind? How might those experiences shape one's understanding of freedom, independence, safety, land, economics and the future of a people?
His migration from Georgia to Detroit placed him within the Great Migration, when millions of Black Americans left the South in search of greater opportunity and freedom. In Detroit, another extraordinary chapter would begin—an encounter that would forever change his life and contribute to the beginnings of the Nation of Islam.

In Episode 1 of The Messenger’s Footsteps, part of the Messenger’s Residence Series, we explore the experiences, conditions and historical forces that shaped his early journey.

During his Birth Anniversary Week, we celebrate his life. We trace his footsteps. We preserve his history. And we tell his story.

🖤 This year’s Tech Noir gave CBC Chiefs their flowers, then turned the lights down and the music way up! 💐

As a former Hill Chief, this annual CBC Week celebration of Chiefs past and present meant a little extra to me. What a lovely tribute to the people who make so much happen behind the scenes.

The guests brought the black-tie glamour and came ready to party. DJs Mister Wilson and Miss H.E.R. kept the dance floor rocking well into the wee hours! 💃🏽🎶

History does not always remember the person who did the work.
Sometimes it remembers the person who had the strongest platform, the greatest visibility, the best public relations, or whose story was most often repeated. Over time, repetition can become the accepted historical narrative—even when the fuller story is much more complex.

That is one of the reasons we are launching "Hidden Jewels: The Sisters Behind the History", a Sajdah House historical preservation series.

We want to uncover and celebrate the Sisters in Islam who built, organized, taught, sacrificed, financed, served, created, led and worked behind the scenes—including women whose names may never have received the recognition their contributions deserved.

This is not about diminishing anyone else's contribution. It is about expanding the historical record.

And it is also about motivation. Our young women deserve to know that there were women before them who built institutions, developed businesses, educated communities, raised resources, solved problems and helped move a people forward.

We need your help finding these Hidden Jewels.

Let us find them. Let us document them. Let us celebrate them. And most importantly, let us make sure their contributions are not lost to history.
