Thank you, @shallayya84, for the gift of art (so much beautiful art!)—especially the zombie pin-ups!

To return the favor, I present you with this:

To the artist

I thank you for the opportunity
To walk in strange new worlds so stunningly
Put down before my purblind eyes
By your impressive skills. Your face belies
The teeming universes of your mind
With its gentility; your works spellbind
The viewer as your blooming cosmoses
Explode in undiscovered flourishes:
Your dead arouse, your swirling heavens see,
Your worlds, with hyper-actuality,
Live far beyond the scope of mortals’ ken.
For showing me sights past the world of men,
I give you my sincerest thanks, my friend—
Here’s to your inspiration without end.

THE UNIVERSE WITHIN
Part 4: “Every drop…”

Pictures by @shallayya84
Words by @horreur_sympathique

Every falling drop
Sings as it meets the leaves—
The downpour, a dirge.

THE UNIVERSE WITHIN
Part 3: “The waste land grows and grows…”

Pictures by @shallayya84
Words by @horreur_sympathique

1
The wasteland grows and grows—and yet you stand
Inert, waist-deep—neck-deep!—in piling grains.
Against the rising tide of stifling sand,
You calculate your credit and your gains;
You put your buying power to the test
To purchase for yourself a stylish shroud.
You’ll be envied in your eternal rest:
A well-made corpse—so fashionable, proud,
As, swiftly, suffocating sands upon you crowd.

2
I am, myself, my own oasis, though,
For I have harbored dunes within my soul:
I’ve wandered long in emptiness’s woe,
Traversing sands as fiery as coal;
I feel no pain upon my lonely course,
For I have been the mark of hotter scorn,
And in these flats I’ve buried my remorse,
Progressing onward, blistered, burned, and torn.
The wasteland grows—but in its sands I’ll be reborn.

THE UNIVERSE WITHIN
Part One: “There is a moon…”

Pictures by @shallayya84
Words by @horreur_sympathique

There is a moon, the rise
Of which you’ll never see;
It finds its home in skies
Within this solitary being—me.

My moon’s light is unknown
To any living eye;
To view it is to moan:
You’d pray for blindness, madness, or to die!

You shun this violence,
For my moon burns and harms;
It lays waste your defense,
This supernova past these open arms.
