Join us for the closing event of Evolution/ Involution, with 𝗕𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂 𝗶𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, an Odissi & Kalaripayattu 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗯𝘆 𝗦𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶 𝗗𝗮𝘀, 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗥𝗮𝘀ā𝘀𝘃ā𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗮𝘁 𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗧𝗨𝗗𝗘 𝟮𝟴 on 𝟭𝟮𝘁𝗵 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟲:𝟯𝟬 𝗣𝗠 𝗼𝗻𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀.

Conceived as a growing platform for artistic inquiry and collective programming, Rasāsvādana brings together artists across practices. In this folkloric storytelling, Sonali Das traces the idea of the Bindu, the primordial point from which movement and rhythm unfold, through the embodied traditions of Odissi and Kalaripayattu.

This special evening marks the 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 the exhibition, with a curator-led walkthrough by Khushboo Jain, followed by wine and cheese.

The Bindu has long fascinated artists as a universal symbol in Tantric philosophy and minimal art, representing both origin and return. Though visually static, it embodies a dynamic, vibrating point of consciousness that holds the potential for creation. 𝘌𝘷𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯/𝘐𝘯𝘷𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 at Latitude 28’s new space in Defence Colony explores the philosophical power of this elemental form.

Bringing together works by 17 international artists, the exhibition traces how the Bindu translates into systems of rhythm, geometry, and abstraction across contemporary practices. Curated by Khushboo Jain (@__khushboojain__ ), the show features artists including Alexander Gorlizki, Ayushi Patni, Balan Nambiar, Claudia Wieser, Desmond Lazaro, Olivia Fraser, Shobha Broota, and Sohan Qadri, among others, reflecting on how introspection, repetition, and geometry continue to shape contemporary visual language.

📍𝘌𝘷𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯/𝘐𝘯𝘷𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 is #onview until 13 March at Latitude 28 (@latitude_28 ), Defence Colony, New Delhi. Don’t miss it.

STPI presents “Twofold” by Genevieve Chua, the artist’s largest solo exhibition to date. It features new print-based works from her residency, which began in November 2019, and paintings from two ongoing series in her practice, Edge Control (2016 – ) and After the Flood (2010 – ).

Central to the exhibition is Chua’s expanded idea of painting as a medium that occupies ‘two-and-a-half dimensions’. In Edge Control, Chua employs a hard-edge monochromatic language that links the unique shape and content of each painting. Her print-based works developed at STPI feature graphic effects which generate optically deceptive imagery, such as the moiré pattern. These works combine several printmaking techniques, including screenprinting on acrylic and relief printing on paper.

“Twofold” is the artist’s exploration of fundamental questions of painting, particularly its perception and constituent materials. It arises not only from ideas of human vision and simulation, but experiences of interpretation which unfold over time.

Guest Curator: Melanie Pocock, Curator, Ikon Gallery, UK.

Love this new work made by Genevieve Chua (100% my favourite artist) where the drawings are made by cleaning the dirt around the potted plants. Love love love 💖💖💖

Happy to be invited by @wang_ruobing to be a part of this 60 Singapore artists show at @whitestonegallery.official that opens this Friday. @ushachandradas will be our guest of honour!

Showing this iconic work of mine, a poster I made for @swissinstitute in New York commissioned by @simoncastets which is a remake of the cheesy X-Files poster. Thought it’s a great occasion to show this work again to celebrate Singapore’s 60th. I want to believe. 😸

-

In an interview published by the Smithsonian on their website, Chris Carter, the creator and writer of The X-Files said something about the now ubiquitous ‘I want to believe’ poster that peaked my interest. He said, ‘The original graphic came from me saying, “Let’s get a picture of a spaceship and put—Ed Ruscha-like—“I want to believe.” I love Ed Ruscha. I love the way he puts text in his paintings. (I actually got to say to him, “I was inspired by you.”)’. I made this work for an exhibition curated by Simon Castets in Swiss Institute in New York. The invitation to the show was to think of a new work that related to props or settings you would find in films or on television. I like that by making a new version of ‘I want to believe’, by replacing it the UFO with a deep, dark, black hole, and giving the work away for free, that we can now all want to believe.

You can download the high resolution file for this work and print it for yourself. You can print it in whatever size you want, on whatever material you wish. Here is the link: https://goo.gl/V5s24u

Sunday studio session: messed around, lost track of time practising and perfecting my cuts. Started at 2 and ended at sunset. Five test cuts later, another non-circular record for the collection! 🌻🎶
