I FINISHED THE PCT! 🥹🥾🇺🇸

THE bucket-list adventure that I’ve dreamed about for a long time, and somehow it’s actually happened. 2,655 miles from Mexico to Canada and without a doubt, the greatest adventure of my life.

It’s impossible to put the last almost 5 months into one little reel, so this is just a small celebration of what has been an absolutely incredible journey. When I get home, I’m going to put together a 6-part series going properly in-depth on the PCT. The highs, the lows, the people, the places, the struggles, the laughs and everything in between.

I’ve also got a LOT of stats to work out when I get home… miles, elevation, steps, blisters, calories, weight lost, days on trail, money spent and god knows what else 😂

But for now, I just want to say thank you.

To the friends I’ve made along the way who I genuinely believe I’ll have for life ❤️ To every single person I met on the trail who made this experience what it was. And especially to the trail angels. The people who gave up their time, food, water, lifts, showers, beds, beers and so much more to complete strangers. Without you, the PCT simply wouldn’t be the same and for a lot of hikers, it would be impossible.

I came out here for the adventure, but I’m leaving with memories and friendships that I’ll have for the rest of my life.

The Pacific Crest Trail… DONE. 🇲🇽➡️🇨🇦

What an adventure!

Day 9 on the Peaks of the Balkans 🇽🇰🇲🇪

Today was one of my favourites. Hiking up to Jelenka Pass and through those lush meadows felt like stepping into a postcard.

Ended the day pitching my tent at Sam’s Guesthouse surrounded by animals and one of the best sunsets of the trip.

Hard to believe tomorrow is the final stretch!

Ďalší deň som zistila, že nemám raňajky a dochádza mi plyn. Čipsy a proteinové tyčinky to našťastie vyriešili. 😂 Celý deň som kráčala v hmle, zime a medzi spálenými stromami.
Potom sme sa ešte s ďalšími piatimi ľuďmi natlačili do malého Jeepu. Sedem hikerov + pes = sardinky deluxe. 😂
Do mesta sme dorazili oveľa skôr, dali hostel a potom all-you-can-eat sushi. 😂
Vo štvrtok resupply, hotel s Glitter Gangom a ďalšie prežieranie v pivovare. 🥹
Sobota – Rainy Pass a posledných 90 míľ. A trail nás samozrejme privítal fujavicou.
A najdivnejšie? Stále som necítila žiadne veľké emócie. Len som vedela, že po 5 mesiacoch a tisíckach míľ nám zostáva už LEN JEDEN POSLEDNÝ DEŇ. 🥾❤️

Day 8 on the Peaks of the Balkans 🇽🇰

A day of total contrasts hiking from Milishevc to Drelaj.

Spent the morning soaking in the quiet of wide-open alpine meadows. The afternoon descent landed me on narrow, windy roads with cars speeding past, so I decided hitchhiking was the safest option.

The hospitality in Kosovo has been amazing. I found 2 hitches in a matter of minutes and did you see the spread at dinner?! So good.

Journal — April 13: “Today’s trail is almost flat, or “Nepali flat,” as we call it. Halfway through the day, the sky begins to clear, revealing a magnificent backdrop of towering mountains. And then, at last, there it is: Makalu!”

The route to Makalu Basecamp proves to be a relaxing walk after everything we’ve been through.
Soon we meet Phillippe again, he is giving up.
Nothing is going as he imagined it would go and he is afraid crossing is impossible. The 60 something veteran from the Chamonix alps is going home.

We make a stop in Langmale Kharka and spend the evening huddled around the fire with Climbers on the way to take on the summit of Makalu.
They all have their own mindset going in and it is interesting for us to hear why and how they are planning to tackle one if the highest mountains in the world.
We end up having a delightful conversation about what it is bringing us here and how we prepared.
They are just as interested in our story as we are in theirs.

Finally when we approach basecamp we start to see mountains again, it is incredible and we already feel happy just seeing them. The sky opens up and the forecast improves, maybe it’s not impossible after all?

Day 6 on the Peaks of the Balkans 🇦🇱🇲🇪

Woke up after yet another interesting night in the tent 🫠

Made it into Doberdol ahead of schedule, shoutout to the cute pup who kept me company for most of the hike today 🥹

Over half way finished now. Let’s see what the next 4 days have in store!

Day 5 on the Peaks of the Balkans 🇦🇱🇲🇪

The section from Valbonë to Çerem was one of my favorites so far! The high route was stunning, even in the scorching heat.

Hiked alongside some great new friends today, including plenty of sheep, dogs, and even a few horses.

Ended the day at another beautiful campsite, though this time I’ll definitely be keeping a close eye on my snacks!

Day 4 on the Peaks of the Balkans 🇦🇱

I had an unpleasant surprise this morning, but it could have been much worse! If you’re planning to camp alone on this trail, I definitely recommend bringing an Ursack or a bear canister. The local dogs are super friendly, but you do not want to get between them and food.

Time for a quick reset in Valbonë before tackling Presllopi Pass tomorrow! 🥾

Day 3 on the Peaks of the Balkans 🇦🇱

A short but sweet day on trail, topped off with what might just be the BEST campsite view of the entire trip!

Day 2 on the Peaks of the Balkans trail 🇲🇪🇦🇱

I had planned to camp near Peja Pass, but an incoming thunderstorm meant changing plans and pushing all the way down to Theth.

Crossing into Albania on foot was a pretty cool moment, and the views throughout the day were incredible. Although, after 4,000 ft of descent, my knees were absolutely wrecked.

A hot shower, dinner and a bed with shamrock bedsheets. I’ll take it. ☘️

Distance: 19.40km
Stayed: Kulla e gjyshit Guest House

Day 1 on the Peaks of the Balkans trail 🇲🇪

The hike from Plav to Vusanje was truly spectacular! Tackling the steep climbs in the intense heat made for a tough day, but who cares with views like this?!

I can’t wait to see what Day 2 brings.

Distance: 22.3 km
Stayed: Dedushi Guesthouse

Journal — April 09: “I learn a valuable lesson the moment I wake up: never tie your
shoelaces at night. The temperature dropped so hard that the laces are frozen stiff with ice,
getting them untangled turns into a proper morning battle.”

After a peaceful night in our cave camp we wake up to a stunning sunrise!
Today there is no easy start, ascending 1200m over 3.2km in rough terrain our legs burn.

Up top the visibility drops down to zero and we struggle to find the first pass.
Add in avalanche risk and we decide to go up a steep couloir to cross over towards the lake. We reach it right on time before the next storm hits..

In the morning our boots are clump together and Jasmin’s laces are still in a icy knot, we prepare for another hard day.

Several hours later and one pass down our guide loses the way in this whiteout, all of us including Phillippes porters and our guide are getting nervous.

Bram discovers we are 50 meters too low and points us in the right direction by using the navigation app (@caltopo) on his phone.
We go down with relief knowing we are getting back in inhabited world, the remote Makalu basecamp trek.

Time to see another giant!
