$Today’s pic: Azeitão, Portugal, and one of the most unusual and amazing gatherings on the planet. This weekend, 103 UN Grandmasters gathered for lunch. In the Most Traveled People (MTP) community, a UN Grandmaster is someone who has visited all 193 UN member states. Considering that only a tiny fraction of humanity has even visited 50 countries, getting to all 193 is a pretty exclusive club. What struck me most wasn’t the travel resumes. It was the people. Around me were airline pilots, diplomats, entrepreneurs, adventurers, photographers, academics, and storytellers. People who had crossed deserts, sailed to remote islands, ridden cargo ships, survived border crossings, and accumulated enough stories to fill a library. And because this was Portugal, the gathering naturally involved an outstanding sardine lunch, plenty of wine, and hours of swapping travel stories. Not a bad way to spend an afternoon. Sometimes the best part of travel isn’t the places. It’s meeting the people who understand why you keep going. #MTP #MostTraveledPeople #UNGrandmaster #EveryCountry #196Stories$
