FIRESTARTER – SHARK 1985-2025
Pre-order now at www.hitzerot.com to secure a signed copy! Regular and Special Edition available.

Some writers belong to the first European generation, some writers massively hit trains in the 90s, some writers travelled New York, Amsterdam, Paris, Munich and Berlin to paint in the 80s, some writers shaped the style of a whole city, some writers did send out full colour panels and wholecars in the last decade on a regular basis. But only a handful of writers did it all, just like SHARK!

FIRESTARTER tells the amazing story of the Dortmund originated TUF crew member on 508 pages. In more than 30 chapters he looks back on four decades and the various aspects his writer’s life had. From naïve first attempts to pioneering an individual regional style. From completely painting the local train system in the 90s with CHINTZ, RIO and VOLA/SHORE to New York subway adventures with KAMI, SENTO and POEM. From painting in Brazil with OS GEMEOS to travels to the former Yugoslavia with Aussies KASINO and DMOTE.

We are especially proud and honoured to publish this absolute must-have book! It contains more than 500 photos and tells not only the history of a passionate writer, but also a micro-history of European graffiti and an illegal graffiti career in general. Many atmospheric stories from SHARK are accompanied by texts from Peter Michalski, OS GEMEOS and Jason Woodward (KASINO).

The Special Edition includes:

- The signed FIRESTARTER book in a super elegant high quality linen hardcover with golden debossed details.

- The fine art print “Namebelt” with the iconic 80s shot! 29 x 23 cm, signed and numbered

- THE OUTTAKES, a completely standalone publication with many never before seen rarities from SHARK's archives. Ca. 100 pages, 21 x 28 cm, softcover, only available as part of the Special Editon!

Pre-order now at www.hitzerot.com. The estimated delivery will be January 2027.

FIRESTARTER – SHARK 1985–2025
Signed copies are now available for pre-order at www.hitzerot.com

SHARK is the archetype of an European graffiti writer. He belongs to the earliest generation of hip hop activists in Germany and started writing in 1985 after the first breakdance wave hit. In the 80s he left his marks in Amsterdam, Paris, New York, London, Berlin, Munich and Hamburg. Together with CHINTZ, ZODIAK and MASON he not only became king of his home town Dortmund, but also developed a distinctive style that should influence a whole generation of upcoming writers in Germany and abroad.

FIRESTARTER tells the intense story of the pioneer’s four decades spanning career in which he did it all: several visits to the 80s Amsterdam, meeting LEE, SENTO, KAMI, POEM and Henry Chalfant in New York, hundreds of panels under various names in the 90s completely bombed system of Dortmund with RIO, VOLA, NUG, AMAN and ATOME, travels to Brazil, France, Belgium, Austria or the former Yugoslavia together with KASINO and DMOTE.

But unlike the common first generation writer SHARK did not quit and praises the good old days. In the 2010s the itch came back and he made an outstanding comeback on trains! To this day, although he is in his mid 50s, countless panels and wholecars with old friends and new partners appear in the Ruhr area and throughout Germany like in Berlin or Hamburg.

In more than 500 photos and several insightful texts he shares selected memories and stories from his 40-year life as a passionate graffiti writer. FIRESTARTER is way more than a chronological sequence of pieces – in over 30 chapters SHARK manages to keep the reader entertained throughout the 508-paged high quality hardcover. Besides additional shots by Hubert Moormann, Edward Nightingale and Alonso Alcalde Peter Michalski, OS GEMEOS and Jason Woodward contributed texts.

Featuring CHINTZ, ZODIAK, RIO, LOOMIT, Don M. Zaza, VOLA /SHORE, MASON, KASINO, DMOTE, ATOME, NUG, KAMI, AMAN, RACHE, OS GEMEOS, KAOS, JEZUS, SENTO, LEE Quinones, WANE, ZEBSTER, ROY, POEM, Alonso Alcade, EMON, BLACK, NEON, OTIS, VINO, KEATS, and others.
