Mulholland Drive celebrates 100 years.

Redbull Racing celebrates a 4th straight drivers championship.

On December 27th, 2024 The Speed Traveler presents one of the most significant Cars & Coffee celebrations of the year in the city of Los Angeles, the 100th anniversary of the opening of Mulholland Drive. A FREE celebration of the motoring lifestyle.

Come to the Petersen Automotive and celebrate all things road and cars, and check out the 2022 RB18 championship winning car along with a host of other Formula One race cars.

Additionally, there will be special VIP tours of Petersen’s “Vault” available at a discount to participants and friends of the Mulholland 100 Cars & Coffee event.

Remember, without the roads, there are no Cars & Coffee!

Road is Open!

Mulholland Drive officially opens on December 27th 1924.

These pictures show the fanfare of the event and the amazing road itself.

Dignitaries and attendees were treated to a rodeo and live music.

But Mulholland Drive was the main attraction, and drivers could not wait to take to the road on this iconic route.

At the time, the Ford Model T was the #1 car, and Al Jolson's "California Here I Come" was the #2 song.

Disclaimer: One photo is actually of the Sepulveda tunnel going underneath Mulholland Drive.

Contest Alert ‼️: Who can name the number 1 song of 1924?

First correct answer in the comments will win a commemorative Mulholland 100 shirt. (Or TST shirt)

Construction of Mulholland Drive.

Mulholland Drive in the City of Los Angeles was envisioned by the famous Water Bureau Chief and City Engineer William D. Mulholland as a scenic road that would transport city dwellers to the mountains and beaches.

The winding route starts west of the 101 Freeway in Hollywood, offering panoramic city, mountain, and ocean views.

Surprisingly, eight miles of the 55-mile Mulholland Scenic Parkway and Corridor from the 405 freeway west to Woodland Hills remain unpaved to this day.

But that section is thoroughly enjoyed by hikers, cyclists and mountain lions.

These images document the road’s early development.

Note the iconic "Hollywoodland" sign in the background.

Options.

As much as I enjoy going out for a coffee with friends, standing in line for 20 minutes for marginal coffee in a paper cup and surly attitude just does not compare to a delicious housemade cappuccino in a ceramic cup enjoyed on the porch. With friends I will add!

Yes, I definitely need to work on my fancy cream pour...

Coffee Fest LA Recap:

This Coffee Fest flew by so fast! There were so many people I got the chance to see again. Lots of old familiar faces and lots of new ones. Sadly, there were not a lot of photos or videos I was able to take during all of the events.

Competition wise, I did not make it past the first day. Lost to a worthy opponent and happy to see him get as far as he did! Congrats @vargas_enderson , you did an amazing job this weekend!

Big shoutout to @kenjii.tanaka for joining the elite 3x Champion club! Also congrats @marquista__ for finally getting that trophy. Well deserved!

Looking ahead to continue working on my craft and trying new strategies for competition in the future. Thank you to everyone I had the pleasure of meeting for the first time and for all the friends I got to hangout with.

Special thank you to my amazing wife and best friend @sweet_pea__ who is always there by my side. I love you and thank you for always being supportive. I couldn’t do it without you.

See y’all next time. 🙏🏼

So excited and honored to be able to grow together with such an incredible team. They're so mission focused and pushing boundaries that I would have never been able to do myself. These passionate people are an unstoppable force.

Show up not to support the company. But come celebrate to support people doing what they love, and pushing themselves to higher standards.
