It was a real honour and a bucket list gig ticked off, to play for the infamous Drop Bass Network, ‘somewhere in Wisconsin’ a couple of weeks ago.
The whole Midwest Techno scene was very much present here in the UK during the mid/late 90’s via their label and associated acts, Woody McBride, Paul Birken, Freddy Fresh etc.
During my time then behind the counter at Dragon Disc and later at Trackheads, I kept a close eye on these labels so it really meant a lot to me personally to play at ‘Further’.
It more than lived up to its reputation. An untamed Techno camp out on a ranch with a real free party feel to it.
I also got to play a secret extended set in a barn on site after the ‘official’ festival ended which i enjoyed even more than my billed set.
The whole thing reminded me of a certain ilk of parties we have over here too. Long running nights like House Of God, that don’t play the game and ignore traditional compromises, instead existing as their own thing on their own terms, not competing with anyone and with a super dedicated hardcore crowd who adore and support them and have done for decades.
For me that really stands for something, it’s so important especially in today’s saturated and televised Techno scene.
It’s that free party ethos, DIY attitude and a foundation part of the Techno landscape that sometimes feels eclipsed by TikTok and the like, but every now and then I receive a welcome shot in the arm to remind me that everything is actually FINE as long as you’re looking in the right places.

A thousand big ups to Kurt @dropbassnetwork for keeping that thing in safe hands. ‘Our fearless leader’ as he was referred to more than a couple of times.

I didn’t get any ‘action’ pics or vids so here’s a pic taken in Wisconsin with 2 top people, @sarahsommers.live and @shawescape who I got to spend some time with 💚

Great catch up again with @tonewrecker who was the first ‘non local’ I ever tracked down to release on Don’t back in 2004 and is someone I admire greatly, not just for the slick grunge he squeezes from his machines but for being solid AF.

A real pleasure to meet

A couple years ago I got invited to play a party in NYC called Zero Chill and without me even realizing it, I left that party with an electro feel ;)

…and now I’m pleased to announce that I was invited to make a mix for the legendary @dj_stingray_313 and his @rinse.fm show Zone 313.

Fully admitting that I got wrapped up in some major news announcements that happened in Berlin and Seattle ❤️‍🩹💔 I forgot to post about this event. So this has already aired, but if you visit the link in my bio (Linktree) the mix lives on Stingray’ Rinse FM page. This truly was an honor for me to express the sounds that I like to hear and the people that I love to hear it from. It’s definitely my love and appreciation letter to some of those whose music and the labels I cannot get enough of 🍑👽🛸

Not everyone that I love is in it, but you can also find those other artists in other mixes that I’ve made.

Full force this one is special and will teleport you to the twerking dimension 🌠

What a fucking honor.

Everyone please stay safe and take care of each other ♥️

Track list by demand.

JUST ANNOUNCED

Alternative School presents: COMPUTER LAB

Saturday, August 1st — Marble Bar

Detroit electro, techno, and bass. The city’s own strain, not the same funk George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic were playing, but rooted in it all the same. Through the groundbreaking work of The Electrifying Mojo, Detroit kids were exposed to Kraftwerk, Parliament Funkadelic, Prince, and sounds from far beyond the city. Somewhere in that collision of funk and machinery, the Belleville Three, Juan Atkins, Derrick May, and Kevin Saunderson, shaped what became Detroit techno. Everyone on this bill is still working inside the world they opened up.

Indoors, Keith Tucker opens the room. Aux 88 co founder, Puzzlebox Records head, and a key architect of Detroit electro since the late 80s, bringing a direct, machine driven approach that sets the tone early. Shawescape Renegade follows, moving between techno and electro with a raw, functional edge that keeps things moving without breaking the flow. Ectomorph closes it out — the duo of Erika and BMG, also the minds behind Interdimensional Transmissions, a long running Detroit imprint known for stripped back electro and techno focused on tension, space, and heavy rhythm.

On the patio, JMT opens things up, a KMS Records affiliated DJ moving fluidly between house, techno, and ghetto tech with a versatile, club focused approach that sets the early tone. Detroit In Effect follows — DJ Maaco at the controls, carrying one of the city’s most enduring electro projects, known for raw drum programming, heavy bass pressure, and a mix of electro and Detroit club styles active since the early 90s. A long standing name in the scene, continuing the crew’s legacy after the passing of co-founder O’Dell Perry, aka DJ PDog.

Two rooms, one lineage. Get there early.
