Like everything I did from exploration and parkour in these 5 years. The struggles, pain, and fire I did to get to where I am in skating. From not being able to stand up to skating in Galveston, Louisiana, and LA. These places, groups, communities, and people I've met I wouldn't be where I am if it wasn't for them today. I'll never forget and enjoyed every moment with y'all. Just like exploration and parkour. I'll keep skating till I die..............so another 5 years of skating

It’s been over a year since I’ve posted so I thought what better way than to share some love towards the people who make the outdoors so much more for me 🫶🏻✨

Baby’s first Trad Lead! ✅

Springtime Climbs at the “Magic Stone” 🧗🏻‍♀️🪻a.k.a. Enchanted Rock

A weekend of many firsts and lightbulb moments where everything just started to click. Grateful to learn from the best @formulaofear whose patience, dedication, and commitment to our learning and safety were tantamount to our successes. We love you and are grateful for you, Michael!

In just two days we…

… handled our own gear and racks.
… built our own anchors.
… tied our own knots.
… placed our own gear.
… cleaned our own anchors.
… set up our own rappels.
… coiled our own ropes.
… led our first crack climbs (!) and
… led our first multi-pitch climb (!)

For @kimbo1382 @shawneestrange and I, these milestones have been nearly two years in the making, building the physical and mental skills to get us to this point. For boulder boy @mdbellclem : these milestones were met along with his first time climbing outside on real rocks 🤯🫠 but hey! Comparison is the thief of joy! Everyone has their own journey and I’m extremely proud of us all and where we are. Driving home to Houston from this I couldn’t help but think about all the friends who came before this, stoking our passion for climbing, inspiring us to get to this point… @dariocantub @rocksquirrel512 @lockie127 @joshcannoles and Dan Jam love you guys 🫶🏽

I am so proud of this crew for coming out and learning over the weekend.

Not only did they each lead their first trad route, but they also learned some multi pitch, rope management, anchor building/cleaning, and crack skills.

Special shout out to Matt, who not only went climbing outside the very first time but also learned how to lead belay, multi pitch, and trad lead for the first time🤯

We have four new trad leaders ready to go crush💪

We are climbing crack like stairs now (big AND little ones) and we flash 11a’s too. Feels pretty good @shawneestrange 🙌🏽 thanks @joshcannoles for recommending the 11a route. Super crimpy and pockety and I loved it.

Also got my baby collection of gear organized and posting here because I think it is super satisfying and looks pretty 😍😅

I think it’s important to do things in your life that you’re not ‘good’ at but enjoy doing - simply for the joy of doing it.

Rock climbing is that for me right now. 😅

Do I wish I could send every slippery slab route I attempted? Of course! Do I wish I could do one-arm pull-ups and crush every overhung route I encountered? Sure! Truth be told, I will unlikely be able to do any of those things any time soon (never say never!) but it won’t stop me from getting up on a wall in the first place.

I think too often many of us get caught up in needing to be ‘good’ at the things we do, cross-comparing ourselves with our friends and colleagues, that we become afraid or self-conscious to try something for fear of failure or fear of not being good at that thing.

But what if we tied our enjoyment to the actual act of doing the thing, instead of its outcome? For e.g. They didn’t climb that crazy multi-pitch but they still loved spending time out in nature with friends. For e.g. I didn’t lead that vertical crack route but it’s still exhilarating to repeatedly jam my knees into a crystal-lined off-width and end up 30 ft above the ground several hours later on top-rope, safe as a button. 😂 Know what I mean?

Don’t get me wrong, you should definitely strive for some minimum level of proficiency to ensure your safety in that endeavor (like being able to land if you’re into flying planes 😅), but if you love drawing and creating art, it’s ok if your drawing is not museum- or market-worthy. And if you love gardening, it’s ok if a couple of plants die every now and then. Don’t let a supposed ‘failure’ outcome stop you from doing the thing you enjoy.

My two-cents this morning before I head off to the climbing gym to struggle-bus up some routes there. 🙃 Have a great Sunday folks!

PS. So very grateful for this crew. Every trip I learn a little more and get 1% better. Can’t wait for the next one ❤️

PPS. Swipe to pic 3 for my “peak granola” fashion phase with @_notyour_nana 😂

Rang in the new year with wild sends and sufferings while climbing cracks and slabs with some rad people. A sample of highlights from phat crew annual NYE pilgrimage to E-rock holy land of granite batholiths. Thanks for making it happen y’all. Here’s to a great 2024 🥳

Routes Climbed: Top Choice, Raw Meat, Cave Crack, Jack Knife, Clockwork Orange, Orient Express, Basic Bish, and others I don’t remember 😅
