I wanted to share a few moments of reality this morning and talk about some of the challenges we are facing as parents during a global pandemic.

Yes, we are still living through a pandemic. Many of us have come to terms with the new normal however, I have yet to get used to seeing my children wear masks. For starters, Audien does not like the mask and due to his cleft related medical concerns he has trouble breathing in them. We have tried various things, including a face shield under his mask, but nothing seems to work.

We received notification last night from his teacher that two children were positive for the COVID. The teacher assured us that she facilitated a deep cleaning of the classroom and that her and her family all tested negative.

Ultimately my fiancé and I decided not take him to school today with the news just to be on the precautionary side of things. Furthermore with the recent events of Rowan hospitalized, we felt it was the best decision.

We are still not sure how effective masks are for children as studies seem to contradict one another. One observation I’ve noticed is that our children aren’t fully aware of why masks are important.

This is all a difficult time and I’ll never get used to this, but we are trying our best. It is important to have transparency around these issues going on globally. No matter the socioeconomic status of families - many of us are struggling right now. I hope that by sharing this you will feel less alone during these challenging times.
