📍Peyto Lake, Jasper, Alberta 🇨🇦
The glacier-fed lake with its surreal turquoise glow, nestled quietly in the Rockies — and yet, all I could think of was… “Peto”! 😁

Growing up in post-Naxalite North Calcutta, the word peto (or hand-bomb) wasn’t just street slang — it was part of everyday adolescence. From “fundraising” for the para club’s Pujo to coaxing pass marks from that one terrifying school teacher, peto meant just make it happen even if you have to throw a hand-bomb 💥

At JU, they called me Bagbazar-er Leto — never figured out why. Maybe because I was always fashionably late to class, or maybe just because I carried too many fancy-stories in my backpack.

But here’s a new one:
That Leto guy finally threw a peto in the middle of nowhere — and BOOM 💣 — it turned into a miracle of nature: the glorious, glacial, turquoise blue that is Peyto Lake.

No wonder the lake felt so familiar… maybe it was named after our notorious peto. That’s my theory anyway. 😄

It took us 30 years to witness this magic.
And yes, they say “sabar ka phal meetha hota hai” — I finally get it.
This experience was beyond my imagination. 💙
