The last 9 months for Zig Zag has seen us fight our biggest battle when on 10th August 2025, my beautiful Jane suffered a catastrophic life changing stroke that shook our world & turned it upside down. I can’t deny it’s been hard to put a smile on our faces, teach & create routines when I’ve had so much turmoil and worry going on in my head. But it’s the love and support of our loyal pupils & friends who have kept us going. To those pupils who left us during this time, I still wish you all the best and I thank you for letting me see more clearly who it is that stands by us so supportively through our most difficult time. I also wish the other teachers who encourage our pupils to leave & join their schools instead good luck! To the many dance teachers who have offered to help with teaching, or who have donated or fund raised for us, or simply given me a hug & words of support- thank you for your care. We have survived to the end of the formation season now … and if we can survive that with everything going on that we’ve had to deal with… we can survive anything. To our pupils, helpers, parents and friends - thank you. Your support means more than I can ever say. Here is a snap shot of our teams from this weekend - I’m so proud of them and grateful to them for sticking by us. Now I have Jane home… just wait to see what we can do next season!

It’s been quite a tough first day & night for Jane & myself & we didn’t get much sleep 😔. But she’s home. She sounds so scared & keeps asking me ‘oh what are we going to do?’ And I say ‘don’t worry, it will be ok because we have each other’ But someone deeply touched our hearts today … Geraint Joseph has created a new song in conjunction with The Ballroom Network written specially for Jane called ‘Waltz for Jane’ I’m so deeply moved by this especially listening to the lyrics. What wonderful & thoughtful people you are. Interestingly, the song is peppered with lots of names of famous waltz songs - (listen to the whole version & see how many songs you can spot & tell us how many you think there are). It’s a really beautiful track & I feel emotional each time I hear it. It’s released now on Spotify and Youtube ( just search Waltz for Jane) and Geraint has asked numerous ballroom Dj’s to play it at the competitions for dancers. Just imagine if I’m judging! 😭 such a lovely gesture but also so clever with the lyrics. I’ve set it to a collection of photos of Jane’s journey. The cover photo of the album is of Jane & myself winning the Shanghai Championship in 1992.
🙏🏼I will dance a Waltz with Jane - I promise 🙏🏼.
I keep my promises & always stand by those most precious to me.

A very sad day as I have had to re-home Casper, our 9 year old Japanese Akita - was a rescue dog that Jane suddenly arrived home with when he was 8 months old. Casper has been a loving member of our family but is very protective & doesn’t like strangers entering our house. With 24 hour care now needed for Jane & an army of medical staff coming & going each day, he has sadly become another casualty of the stroke. Luckily we have found him a lovely new owner called Ben who lives at Viking Bay, just by the beach, near Dover. Ben loves Akitas & Casper now has 2 new playmates to go on the beach with - Coco & Simba. Jane is so sad about this but I need her home. We will video call him & we hope to be able to visit him one day when Jane is well enough. Casper is settling in well & has already been on the beach & slept on Bens bed last night. May your last years be full of fun, walks, beaches & love Casper. 😢

I spent today at the World Formation Championships in Blackpool with some of our teams. It was busy, crazy, stressful, emotional & exhausting but I also managed to get out for some fresh air & onto the beach to collect my thoughts & emotions. Blackpool might not be everyone’s cup of tea but it still holds something special for me with its diversity, history & nostalgia. I still remember dancing my first British Championships here at the Tower Ballroom in 1976 - I remember where my mum sat & hearing her scream from the balcony when they called my number … 202 into first place. Today I made another memory as our 9/11 team were announced as the new WDO World Ballroom champions. This year is the 25th anniversary of the Twin Towers attacks which no one can ever forget and I remember eating lunch with Jane in the Windows of the World restaurant at the very top of the WTC just weeks before the attacks. Our team told that tragic story today - but also a story of resilience, rebuilding, respect & honour. We will never forget. So it was a poignant day in many respects. And all the while Jane kept in touch throughout the day to ask me how it was all going and kept sending her love to all of our lovely pupils. Thank you also to everyone who came up to me today to offer love & support. 🙏🏼❤️🙏🏼

Yesterday Jane should have come home for a 2 hour test visit but when the required equipment to enable this wasn’t available, i decided to take her to local hotel restaurant near to the hospital for brunch with family & friends & to finally meet her new Grandsons Jenson & Lucas. The hospital staff were brilliant in helping me get her ready & do this. The food & company was lovely & it was a much needed outing … the first nice thing she’s experienced since that fateful day on 10th August. While it was a lovely day, it was also an emotional reality check for us & the experience was overwhelming just simply feeling how we now fit into society. Jane said afterwards that she had enjoyed it but had also felt embarrassed that other people looked at her & that she needed help with her food & physical care & said that she feels disabled. It was a new experience for us both & it was a lot to absorb & come to terms with. She rang me at 4am & also 7am today feeling upset saying it had made her realise how this has also changed my life’s journey too. I said it doesn’t matter what journey we are on as long as we travel it together. It’s an emotional time for us both and it’s hard to focus on the future when you don’t know how you will face it or how it can even be. Thank you to everyone who helped make yesterday possible. 🥰
@aparkviewhotel - highly recommended.

Last night Jane was moved to Stoke University Hospital ready for her cranioplasty on Friday — a metal skull, custom-made in Italy, to replace the part of her head that had to be removed to save her life.
We’re hoping it helps ease her pain.
We’re hoping it helps her brain heal.
We’re hoping it gives her some quality of life back.

This video was taken last New Year’s Eve - a night filled with much laughter. It ends with me outside her room tonight in Stoke and Jane settled in her new ward facing challenges we never foresaw. We will face these challenges together.

It was on August 10th, I found Jane on the floor.
That moment changed everything.

I never imagined that five months later — 144 days on — she still wouldn’t be home.
I never imagined hospitals would become our normal.
Or that I’d be counting days instead of living them.

Last year at this time our house was full of people, laughter, noise, life.
This year I’m sitting at home with just the dogs, while Jane is in her sixth hospital, preparing for yet another operation.

I’m scared.
I’m exhausted.
Some days I don’t know how we’ve made it this far.

This isn’t the future we planned.
And I don’t know what 2026 looks like.
All I know is that I want Jane to stop suffering… and to find some happiness again after everything she’s been through.

The love we’ve been shown — from friends, family, pupils, and people I didn’t even expect or know — has kept me going. I’ll never forget that.

If you’re reading this, hold your people close.
Value your health.
Because when that’s taken away, everything else suddenly feels very small.

We both wish you all a Happy New Year and a 2026 filled with courage, love, understanding and good health.
With much love and thanks,
Warren & Jane xx
