Today was the Arkansas 250 Historical Marker Dedication for the Buffalo National River at the Gilbert General Store! The Arkansas 250 Commission has selected eleven locations across the state to receive special commemorative markers recognizing their unique contributions to Arkansas’s history and heritage over the past 250 years.

Built in 1901 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Gilbert General Store serves as an iconic gateway to one of Arkansas’s most treasured natural landmarks.

This location was chosen in recognition of the Buffalo River’s national significance. On March 1, 1972, President Richard Nixon signed the Congressional Act designating the Buffalo River as the first National River in the United States.

Today, the Buffalo remains one of the few free-flowing rivers in the nation, and is an enduring symbol of Arkansas’s extraordinary natural beauty, conservation leadership, and outdoor heritage.

We won!

Last night at the Arkansas Governor’s Conference on Tourism, King of the Crag was honored with the Natural State Development Award at the Henry Awards Banquet.

What started in 2013 with 55 climbers gathering at Jamestown has grown into something far bigger than a competition. It’s become a tradition. A community. A model for sustainable access in one of the more special nooks of Arkansas.

This award recognizes projects that “stand out from the rest” — and that’s exactly what this grassroots event has always been. Not built to be flashy. Not built to be commercial. Just built to be real.

This belongs to the Christopher family, the Jamestown Crag Foundation, the volunteers, the climbers, the sponsors, and every person who has shown up over the past 13 years to help make Jamestown what it is today.

Thank you @arkansas and the leaders who continue to support and recognize outdoor recreation across The Natural State.

Grassroots works.
Community works.
God is Good!

Grateful doesn’t begin to cover it.

Yesterday, Landon and Aaron joined Governor Sarah Sanders, the First Gentleman Bryan Sanders, Secretary Shea Lewis and other amazing leaders from Arkansas Parks, Heritage & Tourism to tour a climbing area along the Seven Hollows Trail at Petit Jean State Park and talk through some intended improvements to the site. With Landon helping lead the Jamestown Crag Foundation and Aaron being one of the property owners at Jamestown, it was a great chance to share what years of stewardship and hands-on management have taught us.

We’re grateful for the invitation and encouraged to see the state taking an active interest in climbing access and outdoor recreation. @arkansas is investing in the places that make the Natural State what it is — and it’s exciting to witness.

The bolting out there is beautifully done — thoughtful placements, clean spacing, and a level of care that preserves the natural character of the bluffs. And, the hard work of volunteers with @arkansasclimberscoalition was very evident along the bluff trails!

Petit Jean sees a lot of hikers — like Jamestown — and days like this reinforce something we’ve said for years: climbers are the kind of folks you want helping protect and steward these special places. ❤️🧗

As a bonus…it just happened to be opening day for our friends at @frontier_climbing_company — who will now be offering guided climbing at Petit Jean. Stoked we were able to share in their celebration!🍾

We are so grateful to have gotten the opportunity to ride some trails at the @oztrailsbikepark ! Wow. Tested just a few trails...sign us up for season passes already! They run so good. Thank you @oztrailsnwa and @garyk.vernon for opening up the space to all you did.

Secretary Lewis @shealewis , it was a pleasure getting to know you. Riding along with some absolute shredders, and good people. Very grateful. 🙏
