POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

20 years ago today I had a miscarriage. I know I'm not alone in this and it affects so many women.

19 years ago today started out like any other day. I was pregnant again. I was wearing a red shirt. I bought Girl Scout cookies outside the grocery store. I told Austin that I couldn't imagine myself getting any bigger than I already was. I put on blue pajama pants. I sat down for dinner which was chicken, mashed potatoes and green beans. And then my water broke. 9 weeks early.

March 19 is always a crazy day for me.

I relive this day from 19 years ago in my head every year and the week that followed leading up to Shea's birthday on the 27th. It changed me forever. The panic, uncertainty and absolute drugged up state I was in for a week while they tried to stop her from coming. I remember vividly praying that the baby would hold on for me and promising that I would hold on as long as I could for them. So I always tell her she doesn't get just a birth day....she gets a birth week. That extra week put some weight on her, let her lungs develop further, made her stronger. This is the day she and I started a fight for babies together. And I will always keep that close to my heart.

Our work with March of Dimes continues to be so important to us. To give back and to help fight premature birth and birth defects is so meaningful and therapeutic this many years later.

March for Babies is BACK this year on May 3. If you are able, please sign up to walk with us or make a donation to this great cause through our website. Help all babies get a healthy start in life. And hug your baby today.

🎉🚨SENIOR SPOTLIGHT🚨🎉

Shea Simpson was our only (and favorite) senior this year! She has played lacrosse for four years, and this was the first sport she had ever decided to play. Before lacrosse she was a musician, playing the guitar with her dad 🎸

♻️With over 400+ hours of community service over her high school years, Shea has been a pillar in her community. Shea was born premature and to this day hosts a team each year in the March of Dimes race to help raise money and awareness for the health and wellbeing of ALL preemie’s and mothers. Her mom was diagnosed with breast cancer her sophomore year and had her team dedicate a game for her, and was involved with Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, where they had an online fundraiser and raised $10k last year and $5k this year, went to the in person walk event, and supported her mom on the news.

📚 As well as serving her community, she has excelled academically, with an overall GPA of 4.1 and having been a scholar athlete all 4 years, she has set a bar and an example for her peers. On campus she was apart of Future Farmers of America, and apart of the Clean and Green Club, Diablo Heat and What’s Up, Mission?. She also took film classes and filmed all of the football games this year.

🥍 Shea started out as a field player her first two years, and when the team needed a goalie, she stepped up like she ALWAYS does. She was one of our team captains this year and although eight of the 20 games we played were taken from her (having contracted Mono somehow) she still managed to have a stellar season on the field! With 157 saves for the season averaging 13 saves per game and a save percentage of 46.8% 👏 her career save percentage is 47.8% and a total of 343 saves in goal! 🎊

🎓 Shea, the Mission Viejo girls lacrosse program is PROUD of the growth that you’ve had over the years and we are so excited to see you play in college at California Lutheran University next year!

Lax 24!! This has been such a rewarding season. I've met so many new friends and accomplished so many goals. I can't believe that it's already over, but next year we will come back even better once again! Thanks to everyone who has made this season possible! 🫶🏻

What a night. Imagine a team that's really been struggling this season. Sickness, injuries, a young team. But these girls stuck together like no other and it was apparent right from the start of the night that no one was going to beat them. With 1 win this season, they were determined to get #2.

Shea's Senior Night was one for the memory books. I can't thank the coach, these girls and their parents enough for putting together such a memorable night for their one and favorite senior.

30s were everywhere. The back and forth scoring between both teams made for a very stressful game. With about 5 seconds to go, Shea made one last save to clinch the win, 9-8. The crowd in the stands went crazy. The boys team watching on the sidelines went crazy. These girls went crazy. And then there was a beautiful sunset. It was like something out of a movie.

I could not have written a better end to Shea's high school lacrosse journey. My heart.
