Opening tomorrow, 5 - 8pm - The Goal of Our Health by Alexis Kyle Mitchell (@intentional_foul) 🤩 The exhibition brings together three films - The Treasury of Human Inheritance, Plates and Fit to Work - exploring health, disability, labour and the value placed on our bodies. Fit to Work was shot around #Sheffield and draws on a range of historical sources, including the German Socialist Patients’ Collective (SPK), a radical health group founded in Heidelberg in 1970. Bringing SPK’s ideas into dialogue with Sheffield’s post-industrial landscape, the work explores how the city’s buildings and infrastructure carry traces of the past. Industrial and medical sites sit alongside fragments from the city’s archives, including Poor Laws and health records, revealing capitalism’s ability to make the body both valuable and disposable. Find out more via the link in our bio or at sitegallery.org/whats-on > Open 16 Oct 2026 - 21 Mar 2027. The Goal of Our Health is produced in partnership between @peergallery, @joanlosangeles and Site Gallery. We gratefully acknowledge the support of the @canada.council and @aceagrams. A distorted, abstract image in red, pink, white and blue tones, overlaid with bold black italic text reading: “curing” restores your fitness to work.

Yesterday @carousel_print_studio we explored and experimented creating collagraph printmaking plates using a combination of carborundum grit and wood glue. The simple idea being, the carborundum creates a texture to hold ink ( producing tone) and the glue creates a smoother seal on the plate to produce cleaner, whiter areas in the print. At the beginning we decided we wanted to go abstract and see what we could achieved. Working with a spontaneous and intuitive approach. We definitely learned through trial and error, some of the first prints stuck to the plate - the pressure on the press was too much/ the paper had been soaked for too long. We found that the coarse carborundum grit was harder to ink with it creating more textured areas than the fine carborundum. We decided the fine carborundum was better at producing the richer, softer velvety black areas of tone in our images. The coarse created more embossed areas in the prints , creating more speckled effects. We used both intaglio( rubbing the ink into the marks on the plate) and relief ( rolling ink onto the surface) methods of inking, in combination. Also trying dry and soaked/blotted paper and creating ghost prints ( printing a plate without re-inking) Everyone embraced the process with curiosity and we all were patient and determined to master the possibilities. Learning from each other. At the end of the day everyone had been on a journey and produced a series of prints to take home that documented the experiments, the findings that gave them a reference and something to build on further with many ideas to continue they enjoyment of the technique. Thank you everyone that attended, you were a great bunch, wiling to share both the successes and discoveries. This is the best was to learn !! #printmakingprocess #carborundum #printworkshop #experimentalprintmaking #collagraphtechnique
