Twenty-five years ago, my aunt Farah went to work and never came home.

This is my grandfather, searching for his daughter in the days after 9/11. This photograph has always stayed with me and haunts me to this day.

Strip away everything we know about that day. The towers, the smoke, the enormity of the loss and this is what remained for thousands of families:

A father looking for his daughter.

A family waiting. My family waiting. My mother in pieces, missing her baby sister. My mother is still missing her baby sister. As for me, I long to tell my first cosmopolitan family icon how my life is turning out following in her footsteps.

Hope, until there was no more room for it.

My grandfather died still waiting for my aunt Farah to come home. I pray that somewhere, somehow, they found each other again and that she is making her father smile in the way only a daughter can.

Today I remember Farah, and the countless other lives taken alongside hers.

Twenty-five years later, they remain more than names and numbers.

They were somebody’s person.

Never forgotten.

POV you get invited to a dinner party at Shekey’s 🤯🥹🥲💜 I’m fully aware of how talented my friends are yet everytime I attend one of these events & stand in front of a next level backdrop built by @pseventdecor or see the over the top floral arrangement made by @its_ljc or see the absolute genius creative vision @shekey_ drafted up in her mind come to life as a real life experience my brain still can’t even wrap my head around what they will come up with next. Proud is an understatement! Thank you Shekey for giving the girls this night to feel so pretty, seen, heard, loved & appreciated. It’s stamped in my mind as a core memory 🥹💖 It’s truly an honor to be loved by you guys.
