9/9 Attempts Made

If I had to sum up Shelly’s performance in one word, it would be flawless.

This was her first meet back after a year and a half long hiatus and our first competition together after 10 months of coaching.

When we started working together, Shelly was detrained, with baseline lifts around a 300 squat, 200 bench, and mid-300 deadlift. Our initial focus was to restore general and lift-specific movement quality while restructuring her training around her busy work schedule. Finding that balance took time, but once we established a sustainable structure, her training really took off and this performance is a reflection of that.

On meet day, Shelly executed her squats perfectly and did exactly what she needed to do to secure a 187.5 kg squat. Her first squat PR in 2 years.

Bench was moving strong on the day, although I hesitated to load more because her warm-ups and early attempts weren’t particularly convincing. In hindsight, I should’ve trusted Shelly more as each passing attempt moved faster and cleaner once she figured things out. There was undoubtedly more left in the tank there.

Deadlift was the icing on the cake. We came into Regionals wanting to pull something insane, and 220 kg was the goal. After completing her third deadlift, the lift was initially ruled a no-lift with the center judge giving a blue card and right side judge giving a red card. When I approached the jury table, I contested the blue card and it was successfully overturned.

What Shelly displayed on the platform was more than strength. It was confidence, experience, and passion for the sport. She executed the plan to a tee and is a great role model to follow for our team at ARC Powerlifting.

Shoutout to co-handler @itschanelleeyy for helping manage Shelly in the warm-up area! Her help made it easy for Shelly to perform and for me to make the right calls on the day.

September didn’t end but I feel like I’ve lived so many lives these last four weeks. I traveled twice for work, and twice for fun 🥰 What a life I live with the work I do, and I wouldn’t have it any other way 🥺❤️ thank you all for a wonderful month!

August forced me to speed up yet somehow slow down all in a matter of moments. Shared some of my best times with my most prized people, all while simultaneously grieving and shedding old skins and beliefs. 🥺❤️ I prayed for more, recieved more, and I am grateful to always have the capacity to do more. I achieved some pretty cool dreams, got to connect with some really good people, and overall found myself falling back in love with Char’s Bar.

thankful for this life <3

September I am actually terrified of you lmfao.

some of the best love stories are the ones where two people become whole on their own, then choose to grow together.

5 years ago I made a deal with God that if I didn’t get this hotel job, I’d start a business. I suggest above all, you take a chance on yourself, you work hard, and even with faith as small as a mustard seed, everything will always work out ❤️

Happy 5 years Char’s Bar, and what a journey I wouldn’t trade for the world. Thankful for the girls that see it through with me, that sit with me, that learn with me and continue to grow with me/us. It’s truly an honor, and always a privilege. I am grateful I get to be here, and that I’m still in this game. Never in a million years would I thought to be an business owner but girl, we’re here.

I’m grateful for it all, grateful for my partner in crime @shellaaaaay for believing in this, to those who speak life into this, for those who push me to keep going. I love yall down.

Thank you @hawaiibusinessmagazine for this feature, & @mahrizzleano for this story. It is quite a read! 💐

(In my next life please convince me I can do healthcare!)
