A year ago, I stepped into the @aigalosangeles community as President Elect with a lot of ideas and even more to prove. Today, I’m officially stepping into the role of President of AIGA Los Angeles, and I want to take a moment before we look ahead to look back at what this board accomplished together.

We produced events that actually mattered. Emergence, our creative mixer in partnership with @adobe showcasing LA’s rising designers, sold out at 175 guests with zero paid advertising and generated over 33,500 organic views from a single post. The State of AI in Design with @imagineartofficial brought our community together for one of the most relevant conversations happening in our industry right now, and gave our Adobe Apprentice Rhea Rendon (@romi.catalog) a real stage to show what she’s capable of as a designer. We toured the Pictograms exhibition at @japanhousela. We sat fireside with the founders of @hybriddesignsf. We showed up at the Los Angeles Design Festival @ladfest). We grew our Instagram following and engagement by nearly 20%. And we did almost all of it free to our community, because that’s what this chapter was about.

None of this happens without the people who showed up every single week to make it real. To our outgoing board members, Alexis Caban (@alexiselisa), Michelle Leclerc (@leclerc_design), and former President Paul Woods (@paulthedesigner), thank you. The work you put in built the foundation we’re standing on. You will always be part of this family.

To our partners, @adobe, @imagineartofficial, @hybriddesignsf, @japanhousela, @typecraft, @typethursdayla, @ladfest, and so many more, thank you for believing in what AIGA LA is building. We don’t take that lightly, and we’re just getting started.

Honestly? This past year was us warming up.

I am so excited for what comes next. We have a lot in store for this community, and I can’t wait to share it with you. Stay close.

As we close out this month of acknowledgment, we celebrate the legacy of women who have led our organization since its inception. The industry once seen as male-dominated has evolved into a landscape more reflective of the 21st-century workforce, with 63% of graphic designers identifying as female in 2026, highlighting ongoing progress and the importance of supporting women in design.

While female representation in the workforce has grown, the rate of women in leadership is evolving at a different pace. Female creative directors increased from 3% in 2008 to 29% in 2020, showing positive momentum and the need for continued support to reach organizational leadership goals.

Happy Women's History Month to our past, present, and future leaders in design and beyond.

@lacyebeauregard gave us deep insights and great examples of embracing the new with cautious pace. Especially when it concerns intellectual property (IP). Which is something all creatives and #designers alike deserve equitable shares and credit on.

Definitely feeling shock, awe, and wonder. 💭 The sky is the limit. But at what costs? And how do we proceed equitably for all.
