Silenced: By Marie Younger Blackburn

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around does it make a sound?
Or does it struggle to be heard?

Generations of erasure silences even the Mighty Oak deep roots, strong trunk, choke back the sounds of dissent and waves of hope.

They need the trees to represent, a symbol of change and unity performative acts of duty that exist in silence of the ones excluded

Guttural sounds of the marginalized held in line by those who seek to free it, too comfortable to even see it, or hear it when it speaks. Waves of erasure on repeat, repeat, repeat…..

Doing something is not a kin to
Doing the right thing. The strongest oak of the forest is not the one protected from the storm, but the one who stands in the open not seen, not heard but continues to sing leaves swaying in the winds of change

The tree can live for a hundred years, and survive for a thousand more created to endure the silence amidst its mighty roar.

Yet it struggles to be heard on the soil that she created

Hyannis, thank you for roasting the patriarchy with us 💜

Last night was a vibrant evening celebrating our feminist community and poking fun at the patriarchy. We are so grateful for all of the Cape feminists who joined us yesterday.

A special thank you to our partners that made the evening so special:
💜 @easternbank for sponsoring the salon series,
📍@islandcafeandgrill for hosting us and being a powerful community building force on the Cape,
🎁 @blupearlspa and @theglassjarmarket for donating our gorgeous door prizes,
💖 @wecancapecod, @amplifypoccape and @capecodyoungprofessionals, and more for being our partners in feminist organizing,
🎤 @sara.gutierrez_14, @tisreal83, @sherilcsmith and @harlemlovebirds for roasting the patriarchy unapologetically and helping us all find the comedy and joy in resistance.

Fall River, Worcester, Lowell, and Boston friends, we can’t wait to join you in community soon!
🎟️ Get your tickets for the other 4 salons at massnow.org!

Look at being turned down as motivation rather than a limitation.

The Hyannis Feminist Affair Salon at @islandcafeandgrill is happening tomorrow from 6:00pm-8:00pm. It’s not too late to get your tickets!

Two very important things to know:

•The dress code is business casual or cocktail, and attendees are encouraged to wear purple! (I always need to know that the vibes are)

•Lite bites and hand appetizers from Island Cafe and Grill will be available throughout the event. There will be vegan and gluten free options! (Gotta make sure all the homies know they can eat)

See you tomorrow night! 💜

Summer Book Buddies Friends Who Read Together
We were pleased to have @vannapacella and her family join us on 9/11 at the @ostervillelibrary
After a morning of service singing our National Anthem and America the Beautiful for firefighters and the community at-large, Vanna found her way to read with Chase and friends.

Children need books, encouragement, positive role models and joyful reading experiences. Reading together can help children become stronger, more confident readers.
