15 years of @thesimplegood. ♥️

Last week was our largest City of Big Dreams to date! I’ve been reflecting on what led up to this impactful moment and what it meant to celebrate 15 years of something that started with a simple question:

What does the simple good mean to you?

In 2011, I started The Simple Good as a photography blog. I could never have imagined where that question would take us or the thousands of young people, artists, educators, partners, donors, and supporters who would become part of this journey.

What I’m most proud of isn’t simply how much The Simple Good has grown - It is who has grown with us.

Young people finding their voices through art. Artists creating connection. Educators making space for vulnerability and self-expression. Partners opening doors. And a village of people who continue to believe that when we see the good in ourselves, we can learn to see it in one another.

As a founder, there have been many moments when I’ve had to believe in something before others could see what it would become.

Standing in that room last week, surrounded by so many people who have helped carry this vision forward, was a powerful reminder - organizations can start with on person’s vision, but movements are built by communities.

To everyone who has been part of these 15 years - thank you for believing in The Simple Good and, most importantly, believing in young people.

We’re celebrating 15 years while investing in the next 15 years of TSG.

We’re still working toward our $170,000 goal to continue bringing art, mindfulness, connection, and opportunity to young people across Chicago. Help us unlock the next chapter of The Simple Good for All for the next 15 years.

So proud of the youth changing this world through the container of @thesimplegood , For those who were there, no the students doing the interview were not my sons 🤣🤣🤣.

All jokes aside....

This is the time where we have to double down and reinvest into the things that matter, not be fearful about things that can be taken away. Our answers are in community, our youth, and our courage to make one simple good happen every day.

City of Big Dreams is more than one night. It’s an investment in what becomes possible when creativity, community and opportunity come together.

At a moment when young people need more support, the organizations serving them are facing more pressure to do more with less. As public funding becomes more constrained and systems become more complex, community support can determine whether critical programs remain accessible to young people.

The question is not only whether young people need this work. The question is whether we will invest in the community organizations capable of delivering it.

On October 1, join The Simple Good and Classick Studios at Moonlight Studios for an evening of music, art, food and community, all in support of expanding access to creative and mindfulness based programming for Chicago youth.
