FRIDAY NIGHT is my book release party for GULF OF AMERICA on @1080press — 8 PM. Go to Spencer Street at Willoughby. We will reel a key down on a string. See some of my best friends and favorite poets read a poem each. See me cry. See me and the coolest people I know play Waylon Jennings songs. Dance. Fall down. Buy my book. I will probably make 20 pounds of pasta for the people because despite it all I am still Spaghetti Dave at heart. Thanks to everyone involved and thanks Marissa for pointing out that I stole my book cover from A Mighty Wind.

TRANSIT brings together artists working across different generations, geographies, and practices—not to compare origins, but to observe what becomes visible when works are allowed to coexist. Postal works circulate through time. Sculptures assembled from fragments of Rio de Janeiro find themselves beside objects gathered in New York City sidewalks. Painters who arrived through music discover unexpected neighbors.

These affinities are not presented as conclusions. They are propositions. Whether these relations are found or made remains unresolved.

This the inaugural exhibition of Olia (@oliaesp), an artist-run media platform from NYC and São Paulo, Brazil dedicated to documenting artistic practice and fostering dialogue across disciplines.

TRANSIT

A sculpture contains pieces of a city.
↓
A rhythm becomes a painting.

An artist mails T-shirts.

Mail Art travels.

Objects migrate.

Artists migrate.

Images migrate.

Techniques migrate.
↓
Affections migrate. It rarely remains where it began.

Objects travel differently than bodies.

Some works meet long before their artists do.

TRANSIT is a contemporary art exhibition bringing together artists working across different generations, geographies, and practices—not to compare origins, but to observe what becomes visible when works are allowed to coexist. A hand-painted T-shirt travels across the world.
