My father Robert S. Gerstein passed away after a long illness on the morning of March 19th, 2026 very peacefully with his daughters Rachel Tree and myself at his bedside. I’m not ready to make a full, official post for this very widely beloved, accomplished, deeply engaged (with people, ideas, art) man - so more soon. We join in mourning with his wife Jane Rubin Gerstein, step sons Nathaniel Rubin and Zach Rubin, grandchildren Max, Olivia, Ethan and El, as well as many more relatives and friends. Photo below shows dad front 2nd from left - his brother Mordicai Gerstein behind him, flanked by neighborhood kids in Boyle Heights, LA.

Our brilliant, beautiful, formidable, creative, incredibly strong, occasionally difficult scholar/activist mother Sarah Roche-Mahdi passed away the morning of October 9, 2023 after a brief but brutal illness. Her passing was peaceful. We will notify all regarding a memorial soon. We are gutted and saddened.

Photo of my uncle Mordicai giving all other handsome, intense young artists in history a run for their money. Early 60s? With a very amazing sculpture of his. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
