This project wasn’t just an installation for me, not only is this my first lead project but I deeply recognized the responsibility to transform spaces in a way that reflects and inspires our communities.

For two months, I worked alongside North Broad Renaissance to shape this concept, and in just under a month of intense on-site labor, I brought it to life. This project tested so much grit and patience, but it also showed me the true power of public art and how it can truly impact people’s lives every single day. I’m so proud to create work that lives publicly for you to visit and see whenever you want! ❤️

My heart is full and younger me wouldn’t believe it! Thank you to North Broad, The ArtBae Family and everyone who worked on and supported this vision!

What does it actually take to invest in a neighborhood — not just a building — and get it right?

In this episode, Brian Murray, CEO and co-founder of SHIFT Capital, takes us inside 15 years of community development work that started with a few neglected industrial buildings in Kensington, Philadelphia and evolved into a national impact investment platform.

We get into all of it — SHIFT’s “Whole Neighborhood” approach to urban development, the creation of J-Centrel and its Good Neighbor Program, the Kensington Corridor Trust as the country’s first community-owned perpetual purpose trust, why SHIFT’s first fund wasn’t a home run, and why Brian believes there’s no such thing as change without displacement.

This one’s for the developers, planners, and anyone who believes the buildings we live in are among the most powerful levers we have for breaking cycles of poverty.

🏭 BlueHub recently participated in the financing of the historic Crown Cork & Seal campus in Baltimore, providing a $4.5 million loan alongside a group of mission-aligned partners.

Originally built in 1906, the nearly 1 million square foot campus has long been a center of manufacturing and is now home to more than 135 artists, makers and small businesses. This project will preserve that existing creative community while advancing plans to rehabilitate vacant and underutilized space into a mix of makerspaces, commercial uses and community-serving spaces.

The redevelopment is being led by @crossstreetpartners and @shift_capital, whose approach focuses on building on the site’s history while creating new opportunities for small businesses and creative entrepreneurs in Southeast Baltimore.

A huge thank you to our sponsors for making this year's Wharton-Weitzman Future of Cities Conference possible. This event simply would not happen without your dedicated support. We are looking forward to bringing together leaders in urbanism, finance, and policy on February 20th to discuss the next generation of our cities.

Because at El Centro, our students are embracing the spirit of gratitude!
This Thanksgiving season, we are celebrating thankfulness, resilience, and community.

Huge thanks to our title sponsor @shift_capital for making #VanguardPhilly possible. On day three of the conference Vanguards got to witness how the Shift is using real estate to strategically tackle intergenerational poverty in Kensington by investing holistically and at scale.

As summer edges toward its final stretch, a vacant lot along North Broad Street is getting a healthy new lease on life. On Saturday, August 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Summer aBroad Health Fest will turn 3701 N. Broad Street into a dynamic space for wellness, movement, and community care.

Hosted by @northbroad_ along with @shift_capital , the event isn’t just a festival — it’s a vision for what neighborhoods can become when health and healing are centered in everyday spaces.

Far from your typical block party, the Summer aBroad Health Fest reclaims underused land and reimagines it as a space for joy, connection, and support. Attendees can expect a mix of live music, guided movement sessions, wellness resources, and an open invitation to simply feel good — all free and open to the public.

“We’re closing the summer with something powerful: a reminder that health needs space,” said Shalimar Thomas, Executive Director of the North Broad Renaissance. “For one day, we’re showing what’s possible when wellness is built into our city’s design.”

The event also carries a deeper message. It highlights how health disparities in Philadelphia — from high rates of diabetes and obesity to stark differences in life expectancy across neighborhoods — aren’t just about personal choices. They’re shaped by broader systemic issues, like access to green space, mental health care, and safe places to gather.

With the city’s 250th anniversary on the horizon in 2026, organizers hope this event sparks conversation about what the future of Philadelphia could look like. One where vacant lots become vibrant hubs. One where wellness isn’t a privilege, but a part of the everyday landscape.

For now, it starts with a patch of land, a few hours on a Saturday, and an invitation to see — and feel — what’s possible.

This event is free and open to the public. For details about VIP registration, follow @SummeraBroadPHL on Instagram
