🖌 WILLIAM KNIBB 🖌

If you knew your history, not the linear, the twists and turns, the interwoven stories, you'd see solidarity and equality not division and segregation, there is much light as there is dark; History isn't a singular occurrence, History is never just one thing; it is shaped by diverse voices and experiences.

William Knibb was a Baptist minister and missionary in Jamaica, known for his work to free enslaved Africans; his relentless campaigning was pivotal in accelerating the abolition of slavery across the British Empire. A voice for the oppressed, advocating for full and immediate emancipation.

If History has taught me anything; it's that as long as there are individuals fighting for change, we'll eventually all be free!

A story is for all, & all deserve a story

Thank you @shine_well2 for trusting me as your storyteller, for providing me the space to tell of the life of William Knibb & Ignatius Sancho- History with all it's twists and turns is truly magnificent. The connection between towns, the links within History shouldn't be seen as linear but coexisting events within a particular period.

Be assured down the road from where you live something in time happened; only a few of us dare to find out what...

I love to entertain, I love to fuel the fun within a birthday party, but I love more than anything- to tell a story, to perform - to turn my space into a stage; that is my true essence on fire...to get lost in the characterization whilst the story unfolds gives life to my soul....

To see the captivation invoked by my craft, makes me feel seen, makes me feel heard.

I not only told a story, I rediscovered history; i found holes in what I've been taught and sought out what j should have known, @shine_well2 wanted to learn the history embedded in the town, of Ignatius Sancho, of his connection with John Montague, of how history is not linear but intertwined and I was their Storyteller.

🎨 Are you a Kettering-based artist? We want to hear from you.

We’re putting together a poster exhibition celebrating the creative talent right here in our town and we’re looking for artists of all styles, genres and backgrounds to submit a piece of existing work to be displayed!

This is a free outdoor exhibition open to everyone. Whether you paint, draw, photograph, illustrate, sculpt or create in any other way, if you’re based in Kettering and proud of your work, we’d love to consider your entry.

Submissions will be reviewed and selected by the team at the Alfred East Art Gallery who are busy getting ready for their much anticipated reopening later this year.

We’re incredibly excited to have their expertise helping us celebrate Kettering’s artistic community, and we can’t wait to see the doors of that beautiful building open again.

Chosen works will be printed at A0 and displayed as part of the exhibition, which goes live in time for Kettfest on 13 June. Every selected artist will be fully credited with their name and social or web links, both in the exhibition itself and on a dedicated section of the Love Kettering website.

To submit your work: Send your piece to info@lovekettering.co.uk along with your name, a little bit about yourself and your work, your web/social links and the rights statement below copied into your email.
Submission requirements: 🖼️ Portrait orientation only 📐 Minimum 3,500px on the vertical edge 📁 Digital files or high resolution photographs of physical work

I had an amazing afternoon with all my homies from @shine_well2. Shine are an art and well-being group championing and supporting neurodivergent/SEND young adults. I always have a lot of fun and this week I returned with the stencils of the group members in order to paint their portraits.
The guys were amazing and everyone produced some amazing work!

We had a great day at @shine_well2 yesterday over in Burton Latimer.
We were helping them with an ongoing project to paint some art for the overpass at Kettering Station.
Mark had a present for one of the guys at Shine, Quinton, a giraffe painting, as that is Quintons favourite animal!
Excuse Marks legs. Nobody wants to see that....
Looking forwards to continuing the project!
