The 49ers made a like-for-like swap on the practice squad this week. Veteran Dante Pettis had just rejoined the team — signed to the practice squad ahead of the Week 4 tilt with the Denver Broncos, reuniting with the franchise that drafted him in 2018 — but he hurt his calf in practice Thursday and didn't practice Friday.

In a corresponding move the team placed him on practice squad IR and signed former Rams WR Xavier Smith. The club announced they have signed WR Xavier Smith to the team's practice squad and placed WR Dante Pettis on the Practice Squad Injured Reserve List, with Smith filling the open spot on the 17-man practice roster.

Smith is a familiar face from Week 1 — he was with the Rams for that game — and brings return experience. He appeared in 34 games over the past three seasons with the Los Angeles Rams and served as the Rams' punt and kickoff returner for the first three weeks of the season, which helps San Francisco as they continue to shuffle depth at receiver. ❤️💛 #49ers #ninernews #DantePettis #xaviersmith

Do the @rams know what a shoey is?

And more importantly, will we see one at the MCG this Friday? 👟👀

You’ve know the parmy vs parma debate. But what about schooey vs schoo’o? 🍺

5 days until the NFL hits Melbourne.

P.S. For our American mates, the bloke sinking the beer was Bob Hawke. Former Prime Minister of Australia. 🇦🇺
