We haven’t shown this one in a while! Things have definitely changed in the last couple years since we started Coloring in Place. This gorgeous colored page by @shinnyoni is a reminder of how this all started! Our initial goal was to create fun activities for families during lockdown. Well… what would your version look like?🌈

Happy Book Birthday to my newest picture book!! “Shiny Happy People” is Out Now, and is based on the lyrics of the famous song by @rem , a cheerful tune with a serious origin.
.
As I was moving through my own illness during this book, I had the wonderful @shinnyoni help me color most of the interiors, who is always a joy to collaborate with.
.
Using the lyrics, I imagined a story about friendship, overcoming our differences, and acceptance of the Other.
It was another dream project with Lyricpop music, I’m very grateful to @akashicbooks for making this happen and to the one and only REM, of course, for trusting me with it!
.
Shiny Happy People is Out Now! You can order it from your local book store, from many online stores and from Akashic Books (link in bio).
In Europe, I heard amazon.uk is best!

Shiny Happy People by Paul Hoppe with ShinYeon Moon • Lyrics by R.E.M.
.
Akashic Books’ Lyric Pop series turns the words of well-known songs into vibrant children’s books. Often, the songs don’t have clear-cut stories. The illustrators tease out a kid-friendly story from the words and feelings inherent in the source material...

Wrote about the art of personal transformation in my latest piece for @wnotw 🌱🪴🌲

Looked back at the pivots I’ve made within advertising agencies from working in strategy to account management to copywriting to DEIJ (😵‍💫a journey!!!😵‍💫) before quitting my job and pursuing my passions full time. I’m now working on archiving my experiences in books while facilitating workshops, exploring the world of modeling, and finally admitting to myself after years and years that I am indeed an actor at heart. Woohoo! So many jumps I’m a 🐙jumping jellybean🐙

This is for anyone thinking about change. Changing your career, changing your pronouns, changing your environment.

It’s for anyone feeling unsure, stuck, or scared. I lay out 5 steps you can take and include some resources and gentle affirmations🦥🦚

If you have questions you’d like me to answer in another column, email magazine@workingnotworking.com with subject line “Ask Jezz”

Illustration by @shinnyoni, who beautifully visualized what it’s like to put our desires and wishes onto paper. A signal that we’re worthy of living out our wildest dreams 🙂

Link in bioOoOoOoOoO and if you have a wish for the year, call it into your life below. Moving through the fear of naming it is part of the magical process of making it happen! 🔮🪄

The school celebrated the mural with an actual ribbon cutting and the most adorable cakes Costco has ever made. The mural made it onto the yearbook cover and we were so happy it was done before the 8th grade graduation and last day of school.

With the most lovely collection of thank you cards, it became further evident that more than one student at the school thought that I was Shin, Adan, Colin, and Anagh’s mother (see second image) 😂. The question had been asked. Proud muralist mama indeed.

Huge thanks to my friends and comrades Principal D, Susie Gornelos and Ms. Fernandez (pictured with team in the last photo), who had the foresight and lasting determination to make this project happen with so much love and joy.

💫💫💫 A couple of days ago, got some good news of a Silver Medal from @soi128 to celebrate this mural that was initially meant to be a handful of drawings to help navigate the Live For The Arts festival the Melia hotel in NYC and turned into a big big bang that only came together because @shinnyoni empowered me to lose the fear and draw big on those walls and so I did because Shin is usually right and then I couldn’t stop. a few handful characters turned into 20+ and had I not had the help of the most amazing over-qualified team of humans helping, I wouldn’t have finished in the four-ish days we had to paint it all in.

Had I had more days I would have taken over the whole stairway, i entered the madness area. Hopefully, maybe, next year, there’s more.

Im not sure what to say about medals because they feel so special and at the same time I feel like I want to split them into infinity for all the incredible, hard work made by super talented humans out there. Alas, its a moment of celebration and I will take it, because it was hard to get here this year. and Ill take it to have the chance to say (and remind myself later) that I was about to drown and not make this project, but thanks to the 500 times Ive almost drowned ALONE before, this time I asked for help. It really has felt like a cosmic happening, truly, understanding that not all loads have to be carried alone.
Thank you to the humans, stars, that helped carry bits of this project so we could finish in time. @laugiraudo @roberisdead @leincetta @phoebe_ochou @zhenyu.pann

Thank you to @mollyzacherphoto for your art in registering the work and this moment,
Thank you @ratacultura for commissioning this special piece and trusting this process I took us on,

and lastly but very importantly, thank you to beloved Society of Illustrators and this years chais @marcoschinart @ellenweinsteinilloz and the jury for all the care and for undertaking the work of reviewing so much heart-filled work. Thank you❤️
