Bone Made From Animals is a composition I wrote for Gracie Carney after text by Anna K. Crooks. Gracie sings and plays violin, and in this video we made at Le Mondo, she also walks around, stares, and is disrupted by video interference. You can watch the whole video behind the link in my bio.

Bone Made From Animals is also an album featuring my music played by Peter Kibbe and Gracie Carney. You can also find it, and purchase a physical CD, behind the link in my bio.

Bone Made From Animals is released by the fine sweet folks behind Shiny Boy. Thank you fine sweet folks. And thank you fine sweet Le Mondo.

Kindling, the debut from The Powers Ensemble, introduces the singular voice of Mikey Powers—booming, emphatic, and unlike anything else in contemporary folk—joined by Asheville luminaries Libby Rodenbough, Avey Tare, Charlie Boss, Clay White, and Shane Justice McCord for a debut that feels equally rooted in chamber music, folk cabaret, and Appalachian ritual. Its soaring arrangements carry the gravity of medieval procession and the ecstatic pull of pagan celebration, turning songs about growth, decay, death, and renewal into a world where ancient customs feel vividly present.

On occasion of release: for-tet / flat rat

@faden.sonnen

March 29, 2026

The “for-tet” is an ensemble of improvisers assembled for a performance on July 3, 2024, at Rhizome in Washington, DC. Although we had performed together before, I wanted to see what we could do with these compositions. But the intention was to perform these pieces with no rehearsal or discussion of the structure.

This performance was so memorable because of the group interactions and musical decisions. We understood right away that each piece provides the context, and we create the structure. When Walsh and Collin asked me to record for Shiny Boy Press, I thought this would be the perfect outlet for these compositions and this ensemble.

released February 13, 2026
Dave Ballou - trumpet, flugelhorn, compostions
John Dierker - bass clarinet
Adam Hopkins - acoustic bass
Mike Kuhl - percussion

Recorded 12/20/2024 and mixed on 3/6 & 7/2025
by Craig Bowen at Tempo House in Baltimore, MD.
Mastered by Edwin Kenzo Huet
