These two give people a lot of trouble. Fortunately, this lesson is in the book (Unflubbify Your Writing: Bite-Sized Lessons to Improve Your Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar, available on Amazon and at Unflubbify dot com).

Poor "me." (The word "me," I mean. People are afraid to use it, but it's a perfectly good and necessary word.)

Homophones strike again.

Here's the thing about apostrophes. They perform two completely different jobs. They can convey possession (the priest's side hustle, the neighbors' kazoo concert) or they can replace missing letters (can't, didn't, shouldn't, top o' the mornin', etc.).

PS: Yes, this lesson is in the book: Unflubbify Your Writing: Bite-Sized Lessons to Improve Your Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar. Which, at a mere $12.99, makes an excellent gift.

By the way, a "loose cannon" is meant to evoke the unpredictability and danger of a cannon on a warship that has broken its tethers and is rolling around on the deck hither and thither.

Whoops! Never got around to posting this yesterday.

On Thursday, I was telling people about an upcoming @asmpcolorado event called "Colorado A-Corps: What You Need to Know," and I completely stumbled on the pronunciation of "corps." I guess it sounds like "corpse," unsettlingly.

As someone who's written for a grocery store chain for many years, I'll tell you that I hate using the word "pantry." It's just uncomfortably close to "panty."

By the by, I've also written about much more than groceries. I've written about mutual funds, risk management, private schools, colleges, appliances, real estate, software, pet food, fast food, booze, beer, hats, shoes, saddles, hospitals, pharmacies, veterinarians, orthodontists, therapists, typography, photography, luggage, coaching, printing, waxing, banking, thrifting, and of course ... copywriting.

And yes, I'm #AvailableForWork.

These won't really help your writing, but they'll give you something to talk about this weekend.
