Aqua Rose is an NYC-based fashion photographer who created this series, “Beautiful Bushwick” over the span of a year in 2021. Using the graffiti-laden streets of Bushwick as the backdrop for her subjects, the photos include objects she collected over her time in New York. Combining the surreal nature of her work with everyday objects and the street, she reveals inspiration and beauty in overlooked spaces, transmitting the message that the only thing you need to create is the want. // Link in Bio

“No one else is supposed to understand your calling, it wasn’t a conference call.” 💭

My sister @jessierommelt and I who is the director and founder of an art residency in Pittsburgh @bunkerprojects were chatting in her garden the other day about what it takes to be a leader in creative spaces, the responsibility to be able to speak to it, and ultimately act on it.

Many times our calling can and will feel like a conference call because after all, transparency behind our missions are essential. As women who transformed an idea through work ethic and passion rather than relying on monetary resources, we still need to build trust within our community. We are allies for POC and underrepresented people who are pushing through our own barriers as well as others. Having a mentor who has created opportunities for emerging artists over 10 years in the non-profit world has taught me that it’s apart of our journey to challenge ourselves to the limits, to accept our privilege in order to grow for the good of our cause and to always revert back to why you were called to be in the position that you are. You are worthy and deserving of your calling and are exactly where you need to be to make a difference in the world.
