London has halved new HIV diagnoses in less than a decade. That is progress worth celebrating.

New UKHSA data show diagnoses fell by 51% between 2015 and 2024, from 1,979 to 971.

Behind this achievement are decades of community activism, advances in HIV treatment, expanded testing, PrEP and sustained investment in prevention.

London has also pioneered innovative, coordinated approaches. @doitldn, @shldotuk and @fasttrackcitiesldn have helped strengthen prevention, access to services and collective action.

Regional and local partnerships across the NHS, local government, public health and communities have enabled us to scale up emergency department opt-out blood-borne virus testing, anti-stigma programmes and access to PrEP through innovative service partnerships.

But more recent progress has slowed, and inequalities persist. Late diagnosis, stigma and unequal access to prevention and care remain significant challenges, particularly for underserved communities.

Ending HIV transmission by 2030 remains our ambition. We’ve shown what’s possible when a city works together. Now we must ensure nobody is left behind.

Over the past year we’ve helped 100s of people to access @shldotuk STI testing.

Our outreach team can help with navigating the online service, and can take the finger-prick bloods if you don’t like doing that yourself.

Test kits include urine samples, swabs and blood samples. They test for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, and syphilis. You can also use them to test for HIV. Current test kits include a limited edition design by @freddelanka

If you’re living with HIV, you can still use the kits to test for the other STIs.

We can also sign people up to London HIV PrEP service.

Look out for our team at social events, pubs, clubs, saunas, cruising venues, cafes, bookshops, and specific events we host.

The team speaks multiple languages and can answer any questions you have about sexual health. They can also refer you to a free @nhsenglandldn clinic if you’d rather use a clinic.

With enormous respect to our dedicated outreach staff and volunteers 😍

Coinciding with #SexualHealthWeek, the team at @shldotuk visited numerous freshers’ fairs and student engagement events, including the University of the Arts London and the University of Westminster.

Here, they provided students with direct access to sexual health information, support, and services, many of whom may be living independently for the first time and navigating new relationships and health needs.

Well done team!

Whether you are a student or not, you can get free, confidential and at-home testing kits via the @shldotuk website!

Order a free at-home HIV test using the link in our bio, and keep yourself and your partners safe.

Southwark has one of the highest rates of HIV in the country, so we’re offering support to help people get tested more easily - discreetly, and for free.

As well as confidential HIV and STI home tests from Sexual Health London, we also have walk-in clinics at Burrell Street and Camberwell Sexual Health Centre.

And look out for community testing, from our partners Safe STEPS - CAHN and LSL Sexual Wellbeing - Turning Point.

Sexual Health is a normal part of our overall health, so let’s keep each other safe.
