What do contemporary ceramics look like in the world’s ceramic capital?

The 2026 International Academy of Ceramics Congress (@internationalacademyofceramics) brought together an extraordinary range of ceramic work from around the world. Congress attendees explored exhibitions showcasing the diversity of contemporary ceramic practice—from the IAC Members, International Residency, and New Members exhibitions to the Jingdezhen International Ceramic Art Biennale and the Jingdezhen Ceramic University Museum.

Members highlighted the breadth and quality of the work on view: “The quality of the works was extraordinary, and I found the overall level exceptionally high,” IAC member Jacqueline Schapiro (@jschapiro) said of the Biennale.

Head to the link in our bio for more about the exhibitions and experiences that made this year’s Congress memorable.

Two completely immersive and intense, but ridiculously wholesome weeks spent at @andersonranchartscenter ✨ ⛰️

Year one of three as part of their Advanced Mentorship Studies Program in Ceramics, surrounded by an amazing cohort of individuals from across the country, and two fantastic mentors @audrey.an and @shojisatake 💞💞 I’m still processing how beautiful, experimental and productive this time has been and can’t wait to see how this program grows with all of us.

Huge thanks to @betsyalwin and the entire Ranch team for having me, and developing such a strong program.

My porcelain sculpture “The Ocean Sighs” was recently part of a show in Sculpture Space NYC.
“Heavy Acceptance” is the second sculpture in this short series.
I was honored to show with artists like @gustinceramics , @susanbeiner , @shojisatake , @raychenclay, @callaspeter, @pattywouters and @randyjjohnston @lee.middleman and others.
It was an interesting show, long in the making, with @pkuddersullivan who proposed this show in 2024( thank you Phyllis for all your hard work and dedication)

If you missed the show, you can still get a glimpse of it on the @moca_newyork website

https://moca-ny.org/2026/07/14/rethinking-plastic-returning-to-clay/

The name of the show was “Rethinking Plastic: Returning to Clay”

As a member of @internationalacademyofceramics it was a huge honor. Personal circumstances prevented me from attending the conference this year, but I was thankful for my contribution to the show in Long Island NYC.

Thank you @koos.badenhorst for always being the perfect photographer. Without you, my work will be nothing.

January 2026 - My firm belief in international travel as education was shared with a group from Rhode Island School of Design. Here are 10 photos from our 2 weeks together, circling the island of Taiwan. We explored tradition, history, craft, tea, spirituality, food, objects, place, identity, and challenged how we foster creativity in our making and daily life.

We recently hit our 1200th episode of The Potters Cast! We turned the host chair over to @shojisatake who did a masterful job of interviewing me 😊. Listen in to our conversation through the link in my bio, @pdblais.

Thank you to all 49 amazing artists who participated in my 2025 Score and Slip project! 🙏🏻 Thank you as well to everyone who shared the stories and suggested artists for this project.

When the attacks on immigrants started right after the inauguration, I wanted to counter the xenophobia and blatant racism with a celebration of our community and culture. I started stamping “IMMIGRANT MADE” on all my pieces and each Monday, I featured one ceramic artist to shine a light on everyone’s incredible talent.

There were many times I wasn’t sure if I could find enough people to feature for the whole year. There were many unanswered messages and suggestions to expand the scope of the project. But it was important to me to keep the focus on immigrant ceramic artists. I hope this series brought you all joy in this challenging year. ❤️
