Another brilliant afternoon with @mpcollective24 yesterday 📸

It was fantastic to see so many new faces joining us, alongside some familiar ones we haven’t seen for a little while. We were also really pleased to be able to facilitate a space for collective member @estellephoto2026 to deliver a workshop as part of her Photography MA at the University of Huddersfield. Supporting one another’s creative development and providing opportunities for members to explore, experiment and share their work is exactly what we want MPC to be about.

A big thank you to everyone who came along and made it such an enjoyable afternoon. Thanks to @harrygraphs_ for leading the photowalk. The next one Saturday 14th November.

See you there!

Out and about in the mean (and not so mean) streets of #manchester with @shootstreetrepeat yesterday in the harsh light, with the harsh (and not so harsh) people of this city of ours; sharing tips and tricks and generally "shooting the breeze" about this, that (and the other)...

Join us tomorrow for the second instalment of MPC Street Sessions where we will be examining the question of how do you approach street photography?

Do you find the frame first; the light, architecture, colour and wait for something to happen within it?

Or do you follow people, gestures and moments, allowing the subject to lead you towards the photograph?

We’ll be exploring these two different ways of working on the street, encouraging you to slow down, experiment and think more consciously about how you make photographs.

This isn’t about finding one “correct” way to shoot. It’s about understanding your own instincts, trying a different approach and developing a stronger visual language.

Bring whatever camera you use; digital, film or phone. Open to all levels.

The theme on yesterdays @mpcollective24 photo walk was choosing a colour to capture and see what you could find. I found hardly anything because I was too busy chatting, but these are the best of the bunch except the last one which was taken by @liamvincenttintype.

It was nice to spend the afternoon relaxing after a pretty intense week (aren’t they all these days!), I really enjoy spending time with everyone in our community and always feel my spirits lifted after our meetups. Big thanks to everyone who came along and @emily_chrimes & @harrygraphs_ for making it run smoothly.

The next walk is on Oct 10th - we’ll see you there 📸

Yesterday was the @mpcollective24 walk with an artist talk from @wolfgang_gallery_ , who joined us to speak about his career, his photographic practice, and his experiences documenting Manchester through the 1990s.

Wolfgang shared work made around the city during a period of huge cultural and social change, giving us a glimpse into a Manchester that feels simultaneously familiar and increasingly distant.

I took these shots on the walk (except the one of me which was taken by @photos_by_anth_anth_anth). Lots of vibrant colours and golden sunshine. A massive thank you to Wolfgang for giving his time, sharing his archive and speaking so openly about his career, and to everyone who came along for another brilliant MPC afternoon.

See you at the next one on 12/09! 📸

Last night we launched our first MPC Street Sessions: a more focused exploration of the craft, designed for photographers who want to slow down, ask questions, experiment and develop their eye with others.

Street photography is not simply taking photographs on the street. It’s about observation, timing, curiosity and learning to see the extraordinary in everyday life.

We shared our thoughts on the talking points brilliantly put together by Matt Cole, then we put those ideas into practice together on the streets of Manchester.

Whether you’re completely new to street photography or have been shooting for years, these sessions are about developing your own way of seeing rather than following a formula.

Thanks to everyone who came along and made the first session such a great evening. We’re looking forward to building these into a regular part of the MPC calendar.

See you at the next one next month (Date TBC soon)

I had a great time at the opening of my ‘Still Here’ exhibition on Friday at @hilton.house in the Northern Quarter. I was honestly blown away by the support shown by the people who came along - thank you!

It was nice to hear to much positive feedback from my work. I created this body of work in 2022 with two road trips on each coast of the USA that were both a fortnight long. This was speculative work - I made the trips because a restorative trip to the desert was needed and I had always wanted to explore the rust belt.

A lot of people liked my shot of a man stood outside of a bar in Wheeling, WV which is one of my favourite photographs I have ever taken. Before he passed @martinparrstudio saw this piece at my exhibition on Deansgate last year and when we were having dinner after his @mpcollective24 talk he told me that if I get 10 more like that shot I’ll be just fine 🤯(@emily_chrimes can vouch!)

This was my second exhibition this week alongside the Manchester Gardens show at @openeyegallery in Liverpool. Not bad going!

Thanks again to everyone who came along, I hope you enjoyed it as much as me. The exhibition is available to view at Hilton House between 9-5:30pm Mon-Fri and is on show until October 📸

(Thanks to @johnnyvee___ for the opportunity and thanks to @stanlewis.sax for inviting us to his @bossadospatos gig at @mattandphreds. Bonus pics included!)

We had a great time in the sunshine on the @mpcollective24 photo walk yesterday. We met at Village Hall where @debbieellis_photography graciously gave an artist talk where she shared insights into her creative practice, her career path and her inspirations. We are so lucky that we have such incredible photographers willing to share these things with us. Then we hit the streets and mostly stood in the shade because it was far too hot ☀️

Today we are in Liverpool for the opening our our exhibition in collaboration with @openeyegallery . This is a milestone achievement for us - partnering with such a prestigious gallery and creating an avenue of exposure for members of our community. The opening is at 2pm if anyone wants to come along and the exhibition runs until 26th July 📸

Thanks for all the kind comments and feedback on my first ever wedding photographs yesterday! It’s a much different experience that street and portraiture - mostly because of the intense pressure to deliver memorable shots.

I had a much more laid back time capturing these images on a very short walk with @shootstreetrepeat yesterday evening in Manchester. The light was magical and made for some cool moments.

The weather is set to be lovely this weekend, perfect day for an @mpcollective24 photowalk after an artist talk by @debbieellis_photography . It’s a 1pm start at Village Hall, Deansgate Mews 📸
