Firing up the way-back machine to share an oldie but a goodie, a plant-care manual that deepened my appreciation for plants and helped me become more patient with them and myself. Written by Darryl Cheng of @houseplantjournal, The New Plant Parent: Develop Your Green Thumb and Care for Your House-Plant Family aims to help people become confident caregivers by teaching the fundamentals of plant science and encouraging careful observation.

The first half covers everything from understanding plant environments (i.e. how wildly the conditions vary from jungle to nursery to house) to how to measure light, how to aerate soil, how to prune and repot, and so on. The second half is a detailed look at the lessons Cheng's learned caring for a wide variety of plants in his own Toronto home. Plain language, helpful illustrations and photos and a bit of humour help things “stick” and make it fun to read.

Some people are more intuitive with plants; this book offers some hope and know-how for the rest of us. It’s about learning what house plants need and what we can give them, being curious and attentive, having reasonable expectations and taking the long view. Highly recommend!

I adapted this review from my OG one in 2019. Thank you for the copy, @abramsbooks. Cheng published a second book in 2024, The New Plant Collector: The Next Adventure In Your House Plant Journey.

Live plants are my favourite form of event décor 🌿

They instantly elevate a space, shift the energy, and make everything feel intentional.
Probably why I also have 50+ living throughout my home…

Sharing my fav local, women-run plant shops that I genuinely love 🤍

Greenery isn’t just decoration; it changes how we feel in a space.

Studies have found that even modest amounts of indoor plants can reduce stress and improve perceptions of comfort and well-being in work environments. People surrounded by plants report feeling better about the air they breathe and the space they’re in, and that matters when we spend most of our days inside.

That’s why we were glad to have LandscapeDirect refresh the plants in our office this month. They’ve built the largest online first garden centre — and now, with Foli, they’re bringing the same convenience and quality to indoor plants that they’ve long brought to outdoor living.

What’s worth knowing:
• A fully online experience — no nursery trips, no seasonal guesswork
• A growing collection that spans indoor greenery to outdoor and seasonal pieces
• Delivered right to your door

Explore what they’re doing and order your plants today!

At the end of the day, a little thought often means more than a price tag 👇

I’m a big fan of buying things people would buy for themselves, but levelled up. Some of my favourite brands are tagged!

If they drink coffee every day, get them a fun new blend to try. @detourcoffee has a subscription (I love any sort of subscription as a gift—I’ve given monthly sock delivery @happysocks , magazine subscriptions, and @thecarnivoreclub in the past!)

If they love reading. A well chosen book or even a bookstore or digital download gift card can go a long way! My grandparents gifted me a lot of awesome coffee table/art books 🥰

If they love wine, but never buy a bottle over $15, treat them to a $25 bottle that looks nice or something new to try (or an NA wine/beverage!)

Let’s take the pressure off of buying things just for the sake of having something to give!

We’ve been named a Top Four Finalist in two categories at the 2025 PPPC Product and Member-Voted Awards:

🏆 Western Distributor of the Year
🌱 Distributor Product Award for Growing Together, Naturally

Why does this matter? Because it shows what we’ve always believed: merch works best when it’s meaningful. Our Growing Together, Naturally campaign turned a self-promo into a living story: each project came with plants in custom pots, so clients built their own Creative Boulevard gardens over time. That's lasting memories and a campaign that people will continue to nurture and grow, keeping us in their minds.

That approach created real results: referrals, repeat projects, stronger partnerships, and now, national recognition. 🙌

Working with Foli was a dream. What a team. What beautiful plants. What a great experience. Thanks, Team Foli!

If you’re ready for branded merch that stands out (and maybe even wins awards), let’s chat.

Even the little details are important around here and part of installing accents in this collaborative space today, was placing these gorgeous plants from @shop_foli they were super easy and I am obsessed with the little wood stand! We also had help from the talented team at @artlabelinc The print behind me is by Canadian Artist Erica Hawkes and really makes this space! #interiordesign #officedesign #commercialinteriors #workspacewellness #hamontdesigners

Take a walk down Plains Road and stop and appreciate the spring planters in full bloom.

🌼💜 The vibrant yellow and purple flowers are a total mood-lifter ~ proof that a splash of colour can brighten more than just the sidewalk.

Big thanks to @shop_foli for helping us at the Aldershot BIA to bring these planters to participating businesses in our neighbourhood.

It’s these little things that make Aldershot feel like home.

What a night to remember at last night’s 2025 Business Excellence Awards Gala hosted by the Burlington Chamber of Commerce @burlingtoncofc at the beautiful Burlington Convention Centre @burlingtonconventionc presented by @rbc
From the live music to the food, the stories shared, to the energy in the room, everything was spectacular.
I was deeply honoured to be recognized as a Finalist in the Women Business Leader category alongside so many incredible, purpose-driven organizations and leaders.
To have Blue Water Performance Ltd. stand among them filled me with gratitude, joy, and pride.
Huge congratulations to @theroccasisters for winning the award! Well deserved.

Reflecting on the entire evening, it was more than an awards night, it was a celebration of what makes our business community so special: the people who lead with heart, innovate with courage, and contribute to a thriving place we’re lucky to play, live, learn, and grow in.
Congratulations to all the winners and finalists; your excellence truly shapes our city.

A huge thank you to my friends for celebrating with me, your presence meant the world.
And to all the sponsors, volunteers, presenters, and organizers thank you for making us feel seen, celebrated, and inspired to continue doing what we love. Here’s to a beautiful community, courage, leading with heart, and continued impact.

Still buzzing from the energy of The Summit Collective by @alannacrawford_ ! ✨ She has truly outdone herself — curating a powerhouse lineup of female-founded businesses that left us inspired, connected, and ready to soar. From every detail to every conversation, it was clear this wasn’t just an event — it was a movement.

A special shoutout to the ever-supportive @brandonisaacfitness, who consistently shows up for women in business. Your presence and encouragement means more than you know!

Thank you, Alanna, for creating a space where women are celebrated, uplifted, and amplified. I’m already counting down to the second Collective Summit — if this was just the beginning, the future is unstoppable. Thank you for having the mobile store as a vendor 💫
