I haven’t made one of these fun little posts in a while. Life has been LIFEY As F lately, both personally and professionally. Taking a chance on yourself and putting your own money into a company is never easy. But every obstacle and mistake makes the next one slightly easier. Never easy. Just easier. A few friends asked about the NYFW fits, so here they are. But I’m also looking at clothes through the business side of fashion, which is why I like to really wear-test brands. How does everything breathe, move and feel after a full NYFW day? Looking good is one thing. Holding up in real life and ultimately selling is another. And no, I’m not comfortable speaking on camera. These were originally little video notes I sent to friends, but the only way to get better is to keep doing it. Haha. As fun as the week was, NYFW also reminded me: Stay open enough to connect, grounded enough to stand alone and wise enough to know when to step away. Still learning. Still grateful. ❤️ Thank you to our teams at @floor13studio , @floor13tradeshow and @fittingroom_13 for trusting me enough to think outside the box. And endless love to my family and the 2 Brads in my life for putting up with a lot, including how absent I’ve been lately. And to everyone supporting, watching and coming along on this journey, thank you. I know I’m cheesy. Five years ago, in the midst of the pandemic, @oneaclare found herself without a job with Totokaelo — the legendary New York store where she worked as a womenswear designer — closed its doors. She began sewing from her apartment, first making face masks and then clothes from old flour sacks. Without really intending to, those handmade experiments became @silphium.studio. Now, five years in, she’s come to accept that what she’s doing is, in fact, running a fashion brand. After first meeting in Paris last June, where she presented alongside @smalltalk_studio @archie__usa and @csillag_usa, Onea and I picked up our conversation again the other week. We talked about New York’s emerging scene of designers producing in the Garment District, the menswear “echo chamber,” resisting growth for growth’s sake, how to design purely on instinct, and why she might eventually rather run a bookstore. NYFW Reflections: Still coming down from the NY fashion week high. A few weeks ago, I decided to have my Devil Wears Prada moment. Runways, outdoor presentations, trunk shows, pop ups, just walking around the city catching a glimpse of where menswear is headed next. The part I’m still buzzing from though, isn’t the shows. It’s my flourishing community. Social media can feel vastly impersonal sometimes. This weekend I got to shake hands with guys I’ve admired and have genuine time with them. Time to sit with them and chop it up. And the wild part, most of the conversations went beyond the clothes we were wearing. So consider this your sign to put yourself out there and find your people. They do exist if you look for them! Four Corners Against The Current. NYFW, weekend provided by controlled chaos. 8–10 events, packed streets, terrible parking, long lines everywhere. Somehow, none of it felt rushed. Every stop felt intentional. Bottega Desires for community. Sebastien Ami at @shopandson for craftsmanship. Blue in Green in Soho for garments that respect time. ToneDeaf Studios for story and identity. That was probably my biggest takeaway from the weekend. Fashion Week looks chaotic from the outside, but if you know where you’re going and why you’re there, it feels completely different. I definitely wish I could’ve caught Vivet by Kai Cenat and Public School NYC, but overall: 7.5/10 weekend. #mensfashion #workwear #nyfw #madeinnyc #nyc
