On this day, 13 years ago, a stranger approached me after I had facilitated a movement workshop. Whenever Facebook Memories reminds me of this chance encounter, I get chills.

It’s story time, here’s what happened:

A man who traveled from India to experience NYC approached me & the conversation that was about to unfold would AFFIRM what my spirit had been telling me the last few weeks. The man asked several questions regarding how someone lives their purpose, how they get past the critics & self-doubt, & how they overcome themselves to chase their dreams.

He asked me how we connect with others when we live in a place that values materialistic gain over developing genuine connections with people.

I responded to this man the best way I could & shared my recent experiences. I told him how I managed to get through it. I said to him at some point in the conversation, ā€œAt your worst, there’s a lesson to be learned, and at your best, there’s a lesson to be learned.ā€

The man asked me how I was able to speak on such topics & how I was able to articulate the words that were speaking to aspects of his spirit. He then asked me how I maintained my spiritual awareness. I told him I write and read. I told him I take the time to express my emotions and then sort through them.

The man also said to me that my energy shifted the environment. He had been staying at this location for a little over a week, & felt disconnected from the space as people were not taking the time to connect. He said my presence made such a difference for him.

He told me I had a gift, wished me well, & thanked me for taking the time to answer his questions.

My friend was there with me, and we were both taken aback by the experience. My friend then went on to hug me and say that if in 25 years I am not still living my purpose, there would be consequences. (cont’d in comments)
