money can’t buy this

Spotted at the Toronto waterfront marathon

UPDATE: The video found the runner (Kash) and I reached out for the backstory of this moment.

“I think I’ve watched this reel probably 100 times and I cannot hold the emotions that comes with it.

Up until this point in the race I had my phone out recording everything and everyone. But I knew I was about to see Britt (lady running with me) and Quinton (the guy I’m hugging) shortly.

These 2 individuals are so special that I did not need to record or capture the moment and rather be present in the moment wholeheartedly. I knew this was the last time I would see them on the route and I would leave Canada today so it was extremely emotional just knowing this journey has come to an end after spending 2 weeks with them.

They made everything I did in these past 2 weeks possible—from running 2 marathons to sharing their home, friends & families with me.“

A quick post about some of the tools I find indispensable both on set and off. A lot of these have already been mentioned by previous hosts but I figure a little confirmation bias can’t hurt.

First up is a Segway. Prior to these I was using a pair of rollerblades for cheap and quick handheld operating and what an upgrade its been. I’ve had a lot of practice to get to the comfort level I’m at now but I strongly encourage anyone to give them a shot (maybe with a dumbbell instead of a camera at first), it’s really very intuitive once you get going.

Maybe a little less accessible but all my years of playing hockey have made my ice skates another really valuable tool for very specific jobs.

@scenario_app is my new absolute favourite tool for floor plans / mapping out location information to share with crew. It’s not free but the developers are constantly releasing new tools and taking feedback directly from the community of users.

@shotdeck has become the first place I go when I’m looking for inspiration. It’s so easy to burn hours flipping through reference to reference and I often wind up on a completely different genre than I started in with 5 new movies I want to watch.

@cadrageapp has been my go to digital viewfinder of late and I don’t think there’s any other app on my phone that has been more worth the cost.

This one is a bit of a luxury but I built myself out a “tree” covered in accessories that make my day on set easier and more organized. I can ask our VTR teams for a 17” monitor to work off, or even if I’m handheld operating that day it gives me a place to hang all of my personal items so that I don’t wind up asking the camera team if they’ve seen everything I’ve put down in dumb places over the day

@prismlensfx has been making some of the absolute best filters for adding some extra sauce to a shot but I’ve also been collecting a lot of much cheaper and easier to find pieces for years. If you’re on a budget the glass shelf at your local second hand store is a great place to start as well as the dollar store.

A pocket knife and a green laser go a long way towards making my life easier on set. Th

Last night’s Toronto Creator event was a HUGE success 🥹

When we started planning this, our vision was simple: bring creators together IRL to connect, collaborate, create and have fun.

Since starting my Creator Academy @christinachincreators, one thing I’ve realized is that there just aren’t enough opportunities for creators to actually meet, learn from each other and build together in person.

Seeing everyone filming together, sharing ideas, meeting new people and supporting each other last night was exactly what we hoped Creator Night could be. 🤍

Huge thank you to The Backyard Club for helping us bring the vision to life and @joolapickleball, @crankcoffee_, @nealbrothers for all the amazing prizes and goodies!

Thank you to my co-host @edjupickleball for being awesome all night! Thanks to our volunteers @hughster23 @feinomenal @brianrim.pb @philipnteresa for keeping the lines moving so smoothly! And of course our pro photographer @shot_byben for these amazing photos 📸

Most importantly, thank you to every creator who showed up and brought the energy.

We’re just getting started. 👀

Comment “CREATOR” to be added to the waitlist for the next event!
