The opening of TRUST WANNSEE @wannsee_contemporary takes place Sept 13th from 15.00 h on as a ritual at Kleiner Wannsee: a song by composer @mayadunietz , performed by @show____choir____ with @jessgadani, trombonist @andyptashka, birds, waves, trees, the wind and you, sung for the Hydra.
The exhibition in the Gallery opens at 17.00 h and assembles talismanic images based on the astrological chart of the foundation of Greater Berlin (1 October 1920), in dialogue with Aby Warburg’s legacy on astrology, art and cosmology.

Every painting is a field. That was the Baroque mindset: every canvas, every stone slab upon which a painting is created, is a field to be plowed, potentially rich in harvest. Just as the soil itself, into which seeds are sown, the surface of the painting was also regarded as a place where futures could be laid out. Such thinking also encompasses violence, for with every image created in this way, a part of the earth is taken and placed in a different context; every image involves appropriation and interpretation. This gives rise to an interplay of forces, a metabolism, and a range of responses that extend far beyond human action. For what do I know of the silver used to depict the moon, or of the stones upon which the images were created? On October 1, 1920, Greater Berlin was founded, and Wannsee emerged as an official district of the new metropolis. Taking this date as its starting point, the exhibition reinterprets the constellations of the celestial bodies at that moment and brings them down to the ground in Wannsee in 2026.

Today starts 𝗦𝘂𝗸𝗸𝗼𝘁: 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 🌿✨
For the next five days, we turn the @sophiensaele into a living ritual, a space of gathering, reflection and celebration.

The sukkah thus becomes the setting for an unfolding of knowledge exchange and conversation.
The gatherings take on very different forms, part workshop, part hangout, talk, concert or also party.
Everything remains in motion: Guests become hosts and hosts become guests in a constantly changing negotiation.

🎫 Tickets 13 € / 22 €
🎭 After the show on 15.3., it’s party time! Join us for a costume party—come dressed up, get creative, and celebrate with us!
#performance

The performance combines various artistic elements in an intimate setting that allows the audience to immerse themselves in ideas of community, love and the complex interdependencies of human existence.

The centrepiece is the haunting and atmospheric music of LABOUR (@studio.labour), which is interwoven with a poetic and provocative text by the writer Senthuran Varatharajah (@svaratharajah). This multi-layered tapestry of sound and language is intensified by the Berlin Show Choir (@show____choir____ ) and the unmistakable voice of Ravid Kahalani (@ravidkahalani), the frontman of the internationally acclaimed band “Yemen Blues”. The show skillfully combines elements of a salon, a church service and a listening session. Inspired by traditional Jewish rituals, it draws on mythical tales of compassion and responsibility.

🎭 Celebrate Purim after the first show (15.3.) and join us for a costume party. Feel free to stay after the performances or simply come to HAU2 at 8:30 PM! Pick a new name, dress up, and hit the dance floor with legendary DJ Obstsalat aka @all.about.tati. Drinks, music, and a night to remember! Admission free.

Recap of this year’s cycle of spring events: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁

🕯️📖👭

The Omer Count was a 7 week program in collaboration with @hauberlin, @sophiensaele, @gropiusbau and @blnensemble. Relating to the tradition of counting the 49 days between the two spring holidays Pessach and Shavu’ot, the series consisted of different weekly events, in various formats. Expanding the understanding of Jewish traditions as contemporary, experimental Dramaturgies, the program included performances, a talk, a concert, a dinner and several city walks.

In the Jewish tradition, The Omer Count marks a special moment of mythical narrative; an intense, chaotic, revolutionary zone of uprooting and rethinking everything: the time between fleeing bondage in Egypt, to receiving the ten commandments at mount Sinai. The origin story of how a group of people start to become a community organized by law.

Going beyond restrictive notions of identity and tribe, The Omer Count series presents Jewish traditions of gathering, thinking, remembering, mourning and responsibly rejoicing as an inclusive site in which everyone is invited to celebrate diversity, complexity and difference and contemplate on what makes a society possible.

Looking back at the season, I wish to express gratitude for the people that choose to share their talent and time with me. Words fail to describe the turmoil of this chaotic time, and the way we managed to initiate temporary sites of togetherness is miraculous to me.

Here are some reflections (in three posts, as there were so many shows) from the performance series that followed the Omer Count in Berlin between April and June, and “a name/שם” which we presented in Zurich at Gessnerallee’s end of the season festival which followed shortly after.
Thank you @jessgadani Ethan @ruthrose @katharina.joy @alphaville @attia_yael @wegmannjs @nedalot @show____choir____ @funnycars @alona_rodeh @leaaaahkatz @dan.akanin @gaelcleinow @studio.labour @ravidkahalani @svaratharajah @ashbela.and.friends @high____expectations @shirshovalsimhoni

A very special thank you from the bottom of my heart to the icon @rachellibeskind for conceptualizing this extremely ambitious project with me and always holding it down with unending wisdom and originality; To my beautiful partner @heikiriipinen for being the best life dramaturg; and to the one and only @annabolic_thunder for making dreams come true with such professionalism, integrity and grace.

Your generosity brings solace and even slivers of hope.

In the week of the Jewish holiday of Shavu'ot, and as the grand finale to their programme “The Omer Count”, Ariel Efraim Ashbel and friends present a participatory ritual inspired by the medieval tradition of “Tikkun”. From 9 pm to 5 am, the audience is invited to a unique gathering, not a show but a living space for happening and exchange, centered on the main question of “The Omer Count”: What makes a society possible?

There will be talking, telling stories and interpreting traditions; performing and image-making; a nocturnal walk through the neighbourhood, guided by artist Alona Rodeh; some snacks and drinks and a lot of food for thought, time for dozing off and dreaming; a surprise tattooing; all accompanied by live music and a choir.
