Being strong is expected. Being complete is what separates you.

In the trenches, raw strength is only one variable. If all you bring to the field is weight room numbers, you’ll win a few reps — but you won’t control a game. A complete defensive lineman understands leverage, pad level, hand placement, hip rotation, block recognition, and situational awareness. Strength without technique leaks power. Strength with precision creates disruption.

A complete D-lineman:

• Wins with pad level and leverage
• Controls the offensive lineman’s hands before they control his chest
• Has hip mobility to redirect and counter
• Understands run fits and gap integrity
• Can transition from power to finesse in pass rush
• Plays with conditioning to dominate all four quarters

Football is not a static lift — it’s violent, reactive, and technical. The athlete who can anchor, shed, counter, and close is more valuable than the one who can simply bench press the most weight.

Strength is a tool.
Technique is a skill.

T-Minus 35 Days Until Pro Day.

Preparation is no longer about adding — it’s about refining.

Today’s session was centered on hip and thoracic spine mobility — two areas that directly impact a linebacker/edge rusher’s ability to bend, redirect, and close without sacrificing speed or power. Mobility isn’t just about range of motion; it’s about usable range. If you can’t control it at full speed, it doesn’t translate.

For an edge defender, hip mobility dictates your ability to corner efficiently and reduce surface area at the top of the rush. Thoracic mobility allows you to rotate, strike, and disengage with violence while maintaining balance. When those two areas are restricted, you leak power and lose efficiency.

The key is this:
We improve mobility without altering sprint mechanics, hand speed, or hand-eye coordination. At 35 days out, we’re not rebuilding — we’re sharpening.

We also integrated pass rush movement work to ensure fluid transitions from get-off to counter. Everything must connect: stance, first step, hip turn, strike timing, finish.

Pro Day isn’t about potential.
It’s about precision under pressure.

Every rep now has purpose.

A defensive lineman’s ability to win starts with efficiency, not wasted movement.

The jab step is used to force a reaction and shift the offensive lineman’s weight. When executed correctly, it opens the angle to attack the back shoulder. From there, proper hand placement is critical—strike with intent, control the near pec, and keep your pads low to maintain leverage.

As you clear the shoulder, pulling your inside foot to the back of the offensive lineman’s heel allows you to stay tight to the block. This prevents overstriding, eliminates surface area for the blocker to recover, and keeps your hips square through the rush or run fit.

Footwork and hands must work together. When they are connected, you create clean angles, maintain balance, and finish plays with control and power.

Train the details. The details win reps.
