Writers and actors in London 🎭 The countdown’s on for the OSO Theatre’s 2026 Autumn Writers’ Studio!

This autumn’s Writers’ Studio theatre writing programme will be kicking off on September 21st, and there are still spaces available for various roles.

On this unique writing programme, eight writers will explore their own interpretations of the theme of “changing stories.”

Those writers will each be challenged to write their own 10-minute plays on that theme in just seven weeks 📝

Collaborative writing workshops will be held at the theatre every Monday at 7:30pm, to help guide the writers from idea to fully written plays.

Then, in the eighth week, they’ll hand their scripts over to a team of directors and actors for rehearsals.

This all culminates in week 10, when all eight plays will be performed by local talent in one diverse show, for an audience of around 120, at the OSO Theatre in Barnes.

🗓️ This autumn’s showcase is on November 29th.

I’ve personally participated in this programme as a writer, and also directed plays for the past four showcases as well.

Five members of The Writer’s Journey Community are Writers’ Studio alums too.

And we can safely say this is a twice-annual initiative well worth getting involved with for local writers, actors, and directors.

The challenge of writing a polished script in just seven weeks is a valuable exercise for any writer.

And the showcase event at the end of the programme is always such an incredibly fun evening, and an amazing experience to be part of.

The @osoartscentre is a really lovely creative community as well!

If you’re a writer based in London, give it a try!

And if you’re an actor looking for a new challenge performing original work this autumn, please do get in touch!

💬 Leave a comment or send us a message for more info.

❓ What was the last thing you saw at the theatre? Tell us in the comments!

And please follow @the_writersjourney for plenty more writing support, encouragement, tips, opportunities, news, events, inspiration, and more in future.

Thanks!

Central MFA Year One 💖

My goodness what a first year it’s been 😭 I have been blessed with the most incredible course mates who are not only some of the kindest and supportive people I have ever met but exceptional writers and community of MA’s. We did it! We survived the freezing cold rooms of senate house and boiling rooms of central✨

As we count down to our Scratch Night, we hear from our wonderful directors who are all exploring new pieces of work with our creative casts.

We’ve asked each director to describe the piece they’ve been exploring in ONE WORD!

You’ve heard from our first director, so it’s now time for the next spotlight!

Second up is @shreyasranjan_, directing My Alien Heart is Yours, By Christos Callow Jr. @cyborphic 🎭

Tickets are selling out fast so be sure to grab yours to get a chance to see what their word could possibly mean ✨

Goodbye Central. You were an enigmatic beast that I sort of almost conquered, maybe?

I didn’t find my Joe Keery look-a-like, but I did make loads of friends and I guess that counts for something 🫰🏻🫰🏻🫰🏻
