POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I started working on this piece a while back, during probably the longest creative block I’ve ever had, something I’m still trying to get out of, honestly.
🪷
This piece came in almost as a challenge to myself, a way to just take an impulsive decision and work on something simple that still made sense to me. I just went back to something I already loved: one of the many short stories I used to read growing up.
🪷
The one that stayed with me was about the first steps of Lord Buddha, born as Siddhartha, and the origin of the lotus. The story goes that as soon as he was born, he took his first steps, and each step gave rise to a lotus flower.
🪷
That pull, of story and a symbol coming together, is what pushed me to make something new, using threads I already had lying around. It turned into one of the most personal projects I’ve made, mostly because of what it keeps reminding me: that something so beautiful can grow out of mud.

Our dystopian world nags at the conscience of contemporary artists. How does one make meaning and seek inspiration from collapsing ecologies, declining species of animal, fruit and flower, while also doom-scrolling in over-crowded concrete monocultures that we call “cities”? The very meaning of being human has evolved into a continuum, an unpredictable becoming...
