1.Use of Advanced Water Purifiers like RO + UV + UF + TDS Controller – this combo removes all three: uranium, arsenic & nitrates. Ensure filters are NSF/ISI certified
Install pre-filters for high sediment water
Use of Ion Exchange Filters - Can specifically target uranium & arsenic. Some new filters (like Nano filters) can remove contaminants without wasting water

2. Community RO Plants, Set up by govt or NGOs
Centralized clean water supply at common collection points

3. Rainwater Harvesting

4. Limit Use of Nitrogen-Based Fertilizers, Promote organic fertilizers, Train farmers via Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), Switch to Crop Rotation & Organic Farming, Avoid excessive wheat-paddy cycles, Encourage mustard, pulses, vegetables

5. Awareness + Regular Testing is Key, Encourage regular water testing (many labs offer free/₹50-₹100 tests), campaigns in schools and villages: what’s safe to drink, what’s not

Once vibrant and full of life, Kete today exists only in whispers among the residents of neighbouring villages like Hariharpur, Salhi, Ghatbarra, and Fatehpur. Mentioning the name “Kete” is like invoking a curse. Eyes avert, heads lower, and voices trail off into murmurs. “No one knows where the people from Kete went,” says a villager. “They are all gone.” The fate of Kete haunts the residents of these villages, all too aware that their turn might be next.

Walking through the dense forest of Hasdeo Aranya near Fatehpur village in Chhattisgarh’s Sarguja district, Sunita Porte couldn’t help but smile at our fascination with the forest. For her and the tribal community, the forest wasn’t just a patch of greenery; it was the backbone of their existence. “Your fascination is fascinating to me,” she remarked. “But please record this. Show people outside how we sustain ourselves through this forest.”
As Sunita and her companions collected wood and foraged for wild food, a pressing question lingered in the air: “What is a forest truly worth?”

Capturing India’s most significant environmental movements, led by the indigenous communities of the Hasdeo Arand in Chhattisgarh. Through a sociological and legal lens, it investigates the complexities surrounding an area designated under the Fifth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, yet allocated for coal mining to Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (RRVUNL), with operations subcontracted to Adani Enterprises Ltd. Since 2013, the villagers of Ghatbarra, Hariharpur, Salhi, and Fatehpur have actively resisted these developments, fighting for their identity, economic autonomy, legal rights, and communal way of life.

Until May 2024, the women from villages like Salhi, Ghatbarra, Hairharpur and Fatehpur, staged a protest for over 800 consecutive days.

The exceptional production presentation transported the rasikas to a realm of divine beauty, leaving hearts enchanted and souls stirred. Two small villages located in the magnificent region of Kutch in Gujarat are continuing a craft that is rich in history and tradition. Ajrakh, with a lineage from Sindhi culture, is a cloth printing method which is traditionally done by printing blocks. The craft’s vibrant and distinctive aesthetic value has been widely recognized across spaces, increasing its market demand and consequently changing the dynamics of the tradition behind the art itself.

The CNES team visited Ajrakhpur and Dhamadka villages over the past few weeks to understand the events which has helped in the continuity and even strengthening of the craft. The team held extensive interviews with eminent stakeholders in the Khatri community to understand the nuances.
