POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Nick, 2014 (lil golden boy)
.
.
In my black and white technique class, I had a habit of photographing men in plants or plant shadows. After about six straight rolls of boys in plants - my instructor asked me why I was drawn to photographing the subject so much. I couldn’t answer her, but it made me want to find the why. I tried photographing ladies with leafs, but that just wasn’t doing it for me.

Ultimately I realized it was a way to have absolute full control over a situation with a man but in a healthy way. My first intimate encounter was being sexually assaulted and I was trying to reclaim control in any way I could. What started out as an analog film process of shooting the film, developing the film, making contact sheets, developing prints, and even the print finishing process became a way to have consistent check ins with myself along the way.

Who did I want to photograph? When to do that? Do I want to develop the film? What about the prints? Should the print be finished in the archival wash? Too many check in’s to name and all perfectly healthy ways to pause and listen to myself.

This theme and process quickly found its way into my regular work and Nick regularly appeared in front my lens. He gave me space to explore confidence within safety. And in turn this began to allow me to find security within myself again.

And just like that the season is over!

I want to thank everyone who supported me on this crazy journey this summer! Who would’ve thought that owning a hot dog cart (something I’ve talked about since I was like 5) would become a reality of mine!

I cannot say thank you enough to all of my family, friends, and customers who have been on this ride with me! This is only the beginning for Sweet Caroline’s!

I’ll see you again next spring!!

Reminder I am still booking catering events during the winter and spring so if you find yourself in need of some hot dogs just let me know!!!
