I made $8,700 from the first two paintings I ever sold.

Not because I had a massive following.
Not because I was represented by a major gallery.
And not because I lowered my prices just to say I made a sale.

I treated my art like a business from the beginning.

I invested in professional materials, gallery grade presentation, quality matting and framing, limited editions, certificates of authenticity, proper branding, a website, and a buying experience that matched the value I wanted my work to command.

More importantly, I decided early that I wasn’t going to constantly discount my work just because someone wasn’t willing to pay the price.

Price is only a problem when you’re speaking to the wrong audience.

Instead of asking, “How cheap do I need to make this so somebody buys it?”

I focused on a better question:

“Where are the people who already value what I create?”

That changes everything.

When you position yourself like a professional, present your work like a professional, and consistently put it in front of the right audience, you give people a reason to perceive it differently.

I’m still building. Still learning. Still developing my identity as an artist.

But one thing I understood very early:

You don’t have to become cheap to become sellable.

You have to become intentional.
