thank you to the festival juries for these beautiful recognitions lately.

life has been a little crazy the past couple of days, with everything happening around this film. and somewhere in the middle of it all, this moment reminds me to pause, breathe and take it in.

this project was far from perfect. i made mistakes, i fell, i got back up and i will probably fall again. but maybe that is what making films is about. learning as you go, finding your way through the uncertainty and choosing to believe in something even when you don't have all the answers.

i am deeply grateful to the actresses and every single person who believed in this project, who gave their time, their talent and a piece of themselves to help tell this story. thank you to every collaborator and every member of this team who walked alongside me.

and perhaps, most importantly, thank you for reminding me why i keep doing this.

because our stories matter.

because black stories deserve to exist beyond the margins, to take up space, to be seen, to be heard, and to move people.

because even when the road is messy, even when we stumble, even when we have to build something out of almost nothing, there is still something beautiful about refusing to give up.

After years working and collaborating within nightlife, I had always wanted to make a film about that rare sense of family and authenticity found in those spaces. Two years ago, friends invited me to a waacking battle in a bar in Montreal’s Mile End. Within seconds, I felt something familiar, the same energy and love I once experienced in raves and underground parties. The people, the bodies, the intensity: everything felt raw, real, and deeply caring. There was power, but also tenderness. I knew immediately this needed to become a film.

On Friday, July 17th, your are all invited to come and witness love throughout dance and family appartenance.

Après des années à travailler et à collaborer dans le milieu de la nuit, j’ai toujours voulu réaliser un film sur ce sentiment si rare de famille et d’authenticité que l’on trouve dans ces espaces. Il y a deux ans, des amis m’ont invité à un battle de waacking dans un bar du Mile End, à Montréal. En quelques secondes, j’ai ressenti quelque chose de familier : la même énergie et le même amour que j’avais autrefois vécus dans les raves et les soirées underground. Les gens, les corps, l’intensité : tout semblait brut, vrai et profondément bienveillant. Il y avait de la puissance, mais aussi de la tendresse. J’ai tout de suite su que cela devait devenir un film.

Le vendredi 17 juillet, vous êtes tous invités à venir célébrer l’amour à travers la danse et l’esprit de famille.
